Although U.S. President Donald J. Trump has repeatedly made clear that he is committed to NATO and expects members to pull their own weight within the alliance, European Union leaders have sounded the alarm, blaming the President for endangering the military treaty.
In apparently unironic comments on behalf of nations that have persistently failed to support the NATO alliance and meet their treaty obligations while the United States picked up the tab, European Council President Donald Tusk told European leaders Thursday night: Despite our tireless efforts to keep the unity of the west, transatlantic relations are under immense pressure due to the policies of President Trump.
Doubling down on the Presidents comments, a spokesman for the National Security Council said it was time for NATO allies to pay their fair share. The Guardian reports the spokesman as saying: The president is committed to the alliance, as he has stated repeatedly. The president has also been clear we expect our allies to shoulder their fair share of our common defence burden and to do more in areas that most affect them.
There is no better way to signal Natos resolve than for each and every ally to allocate the resources necessary to share their burden of our collective defence.

Trump shold tell them 2% in the bank by date so and so..otherwise were out oif here..
We have been baby sitting them to dam long
The EU ,what a waste of Air
There is absolutely NO reason for us the have a presence in Europe any longer. Let these freeloaders fend for themselves.
Due to the policies of Donald Trump? Not due to your freeloading for 3 generations now?
We spend over 3% of GDP on Defense and that’s a relatively low figure for us. You all agreed to spend a paltry 2% and all but a handful of you deadbeats have failed to do even that. Several of you haven’t even come close to 2%...like Germany which sits at an insulting 1.2%. We’ve had enough of your fecklessness, your greed, laziness and your bad faith.
NATO is obsolete and there is no mission. What Obama and NATO did in Libya was CRIMINAL. Turkey in NATO is a joke. If Eastern European nations want an alliance, that would be fine with me.
Pay up biotch
Our presence there is the only thing preventing another European war.
the place in overcrowded and every country needs resources they don’t have but their neighbors do.
We leave, another war starts and back we go again shedding blood to save their worthless @sses.
Frankly I would like to see us move our operation to Eastern Europe where we would be genuinely welcome. Western Europe, Britain smile to our face but never miss an opportunity to slam us on the world’s stage. They are lost no need for us to sink with them.
I have very little use for our so-called “allies.”
Poland seems to want us there, and it will irritate the Russians.
They get their energy from Russia. Let them find out “who run Barter Town”.
Yes, they do and we would still be close enough to intervene in Western Europe if we see any benefit to us, although I would vote not to...
for the prerequisite for helping western Europe is the total destruction of the Socialists in France.
The Revolution of 1789 has never truly ended, and France was totally destroyed because of it.
Franklin’s desire to destroy the French monarchy had some very nasty unexpected consequences.
Trump suggested all US forces could leave Germany.
Take that, Frau Blucher.
I have no use for Europe. We never should have wasted a single solider in WWI. WWII, yes, but for self-interest. Today, meh - time they grow up and be on their own. If they want another war, good luck to them, not our problem.
You drive a hard bargain, and I am not sure if they could give up what is a part of their DNA. How about we ask them to pay back all of the loans we gave them after WWII instead?
Yup. Poland, Hungary, and Czech Republic are better allies than any of the Western Europeans countries.
Yes, they really are, and without the condescending attitude.
what would they repay us with?
what do they have of value?
I would take it in wine and cheese, after that I can’t think of a thing they have that we need. :-)
