CHP MP Eren Erdem Arrested (Erdogan is the law, No (Adalet) Justice in Turkey)

İstanbul MP of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Eren Erdem, who was not nominated as MP candidate at the 27th term presidential election on June 24 and was taken into custody in Ankara today (June 29), was referred to the İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan.

Erdem, who was taken to İstanbul early this morning, appeared before judge at the İstanbul 35th Heavy Penal Court. At the hearing of Erdem, which was also watched by several MPs of the CHP, the attorney Onur Cıngıl made his defence regarding the case.

Eren Erdem was arrested after the defence of his attorney.

"I am being tried due to the lies of A Haber"

In his statement of defence, Eren Erdem said,

"Though I previously proved at the court that I did not make the statement, 'If Turkey and Iran go to war, I will side with Iran', they are still telling the same lie. Using this lie on purpose is a sign of malicious intention. I did not post such a tweet, which was also confirmed by the court.

"I have been acquitted of the case of Sarin Gas, over which the media sparked such a big storm. But, they are acting as if I am still being tried at that case. If one penny was given to the Karşı newspaper by the FETÖ [Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, which is held responsible for the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016], condemn me to death. I am being tried due to the lies of the [pro-government] A Haber news channel."

What happened?

A lawsuit was filed against Eren Erdem at İstanbul 35th Heavy Penal Court due to his works at Karşı newspaper, of which Erdem was the chief editor.

Erdem faces a prison sentence of 9.5 years to 22 years on charges of "knowingly and willingly aiding an armed terrorist organization as a non-member", "revealing the identity of an anonymous witness" and "violating the confidentiality of the investigation."

It was previously ruled that the first hearing of Erdem be held at 10 a.m. on September 19, 2018.

After the indictment of the case was accepted by the court, Eren Erdem could not go to Germany on May 21 due to the international travel ban imposed on him. (EKN/HK/SD)

Speaking the truth in Turkey is very dangerous. This is interesting because the MP that is arrested is from the Kemalist party (CHP). They controlled Turkey from the end of WWI until Erdogan rose to power. And are still a threat to his power.

A friend of mine interviewed him a year ago and wrote this about Erdogan's ISIS connection:

Turkey Uncensored: The Brainwashing of Ankara’s Children by the Islamic State (Uzay Bulut, Monday, May 8, 2017)

https://philosproject.org/turkey-uncensored-brainwashing-ankaras-children-islamic-state/

Eren Erdem, an MP from Istanbul representing the Republican People’s Party (CHP), said that he has been researching ISIS activities in Turkey for years:

There are more than 1,000 ISIS militants in Turkey and the sympathizers must be in the tens of thousands. ISIS militants have organized all across Turkey – in coffee houses, Internet cafes, mosques and cell hideouts. A lot of ISIS militants were arrested – only to be released later. Those who were released carried out terrorist attacks in Suruç, Gaziantep and Ankara.

Some Islamic scholars are publishing videos on YouTube that propagate ISIS or jihad. Hundreds of pro-ISIS books or documents have been published. But the government is turning a blind eye. There is no enforcement or sanction against those who engage in these activities.

Erdem added that there are at least 25 ISIS cell hideouts in Ankara alone; the government has been monitoring them since 2010, but has done nothing to stop them until recently.

In an operation against the Islamic State in Ankara last August, for example, police raided a five-story building ostensibly used as a “bookstore.” The police found that the structure was actually being used as a training center for 30 children – including 25 girls – between the ages of 9 and 17.

According to Milliyet, the children were called by their Islamic names rather than their real ones. Those who boarded in the building were understood to have been registered at the school after an advertisement was circulated in the social media. They were given report cards at the end of the training.

“ISIS has a very powerful network all across Turkey,” Erdem said. He added,

ISIS militants receive ideological, logistic and weapons training in Turkey and then cross the border into Syria, where they get more military training to use heavy weaponry and even to make bombs. Then some of them return to Turkey to carry out terrorist acts. We are very worried because we know ISIS can target anyone, any time.

Given Turkey’s violent crackdown on dissident media, it is getting harder and harder to investigate the criminal activities of ISIS and other Islamic organizations in Turkey.

Yes, the smell of rotting corpses in the Middle East is caused by Erdogan and Iran. I hope they wear that stench as as long as they live.

Russia is complicit, but they are acting in the interest of their oil business and the bases in the region.

The overthrow of the mullahcracy will come from within, but I’d be surprised if they don’t get a small amount of critical help in exactly the right place at exactly the right time.

I’m optimistic about US and Russian potential relations.

The stupid Mueller crap, has complicated dealing with the mess in the ME.

Russia is focused on their own interests. That is always the situation.

The US could make things better for Russia globally.

But we have the the “Turkey” to deal with too. Erdogan is on a self destruct course supporting his Islamist Terrorists pals. That one will not end well.
