Mixed Results for Ohio GOP in Poll of Senate and Gubernatorial Races

An NBC News/Marist Poll has mixed results for Republicans in Ohio. Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike DeWine leads his Democrat rival, former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director Richard Cordray, by four points, 46 percent to 42 percent.

But the picture is not so encouraging for Republicans in the U.S. Senate race, where incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) leads the GOP nominee, Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH) by 13 points, 51 percent to 38 percent.

“This survey of 946 adults was conducted June 17th through June 22nd, 2018 by The Marist Poll sponsored and funded in partnership with NBC News . . . The samples were then combined and balanced to reflect the 2016 American Community Survey 5-year estimates for age, gender, income, race, and region. Results are statistically significant within ±4.0 percentage points. There are 778 registered voters. The results for this subset are statistically significant within ±4.4 percentage points,” The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion said in a release that described the poll’s methodology.

I can believe the results. Brown has a lot of recognition in the state.

Rennaci hasn’t been out there at all. And I doubt many people had heard of him before his run.

I had never heard his name mentioned before he announced.

It's a Marist poll and it's summertime.

Most people with real lives are not answering pollsters right now. So I don't buy it. Wake me up after Labor Day.

If “polls” meant anything, Clintoon would be president today.

To paraphrase Edwin Starr: “Polls! Huh? Yeah! What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!”

Come on, the Marist ‘poll’ results are as accurate as getting drunk and reading tea leaves.

The Marist poll has zero credibility.

Believing in a Marist poll is like believing in Santa Claus but you go right ahead

"Sherwood what’s his name may be a tough nut to crack.

As with Manchin in WV, the power of incumbency is hard to overcome. Couple that with relatively novice Republican opponents, the President gets no pick up in these states.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

An NBC News/Marist Pol

Garbage poll. Always leans as hard left as possible. It the least reliable of any "New media" polling group. Even CNN is more credible.

No, Renacci is not ahead. But I think it is too early. Let’s wait until after Trump does a couple of rallies in Ohio.

Marxist polls are second only to newsweak in blue bias.
And I don’t even know if newsweak does polling anymore so that would leave Marxist as the most leftist polling org out there.

Is Brown beatable? I’d love to get rid of him.

If it’s Brown, flush it.

Gibberish - what was the 51-39 sample - adults or registered - if adults, it was probably a couple of points closer in the registered sub-sample - and it would have been a couple of points closer had they looked at likely voters - just trying to give Brown an early push......
