The primary defeat Tuesday of Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., who was both a top-ranking House Democrat and the head of one of New Yorks last political machines, is an upset that is still sending shockwaves through the Democratic Party.
Crowley was taken down by a 28-year-old political rookie named Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who won in part by denouncing Crowleys brand of old-school machine politics. But she had a campaign machine of her own, an outside group known as the Democratic Socialists of America. In the avalanche of coverage of Ocasio-Cortezs win, the logistical support and manpower she received from the DSA has drawn relatively little notice. But the group is poised to make its presence felt in the midterms.
More than 100 volunteers from the DSA had flooded the streets of the 14th Congressional District, which includes parts of Queens and the Bronx, for months.
Ocasio-Cortez will be the first DSA member in Congress since Rep. Ron Dellums left office in 1998, but she isnt the first candidate to score a dramatic upset with the help of the leftist organization. And if they have their way, she wont be the last.

The end of the RAT Party is now an inevitability.
I know Glenn Beck isn’t the most popular guy here, but I love his description of “democratic socialism.” He calls it “diet Communism.”
Does it say only 13% of Dems voted ?
The goal of socialism is communism. Vladimir Lenin.
The rat party as we know it may end, but I’m not so keen on what’s going to replace it. The rat party did the same thing between 1968 and 1972.
Lol.
Lowest voting turnout in quite some time.
But that’s “voting muscle”.
5% - turnout, this is an anomaly.
An extremely low voter turn out as per NY Post. Maybe an indicator as to liberals excitement for the mid terms.
Let's be real, if New York had California's blanket primary system, and Joe Crowley could face her again in November with more than a microscopic turnout, what are the odds she'd win again? I'll say near zero.

All the Dems need to retake their place in the political food chain is somebody to lead them that makes bullshit not sound like bullshit.
New York is a failed state full of parasites and communists. That removal of the state income tax deduction had devestating and much needed affect on this pathetic home of Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton. Both failed socialists.
Actually this is very good. In that district no Republican or Independent can ever win. It is hard core democrat left. As these hard leftist displace the semi sane democrats they will become the face of the democrat party in the midterm elections. These leftist make Pelosi seem middle of the road democrat. I love it!
I am not tired of winning.
My three year old grandmother has
more muscle than The Democratic Socialists of America.
I’m hoping the lack of the Dem’s
enthusiasm to vote carries thru the
midterms. Crowley really underestimated
his base.
Nonsense. Its the Bronx/NY City. The only surprise is they didn’t choose an outright Marxist.
Hitler was a democratic socialist. He was voted into power.
Ten percent of the electorate voted, hardly anyone.
Your grandma is three years old?

I live in Texas and have no state income tax. The deduction from ones gross income for state taxes in effect becomes a subsidy from Texas to New York. I am pleased this is gone!
