Collins: I Will Not Support a Nominee Who Demonstrated Hostility to Roe V. Wade

Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine) said on Sunday that any nominee for the Supreme Court that had demonstrated hostility to Roe V. Wade would not receiver her support.

CNN host Jake Tapper asked Collins about how President Donald Trump expressed desire to nominate justices who may vote to overturn Roe V. Wade if offered the opportunity. Collins, who supports Roe V. Wade, is a key vote in the Senate, where Republicans only have a one vote majority in the chamber.

"With all due respect, the Supreme Court, as we know, it overturns its own rulings all the time," Tapper said. "It has overruled more than 200 of its own decisions, once just last week and it is a stated goal of President Trump and Vice President Pence to appoint Supreme Court justices who will vote to overturn Roe Versus Wade. whether they said it on the campaign trail or they say it now, it's almost immaterial, it's a stated goal."

Not sure overturn of Roe v Wade is at the top of Trump’s priorities. Trump has said he won’t ask a nominee how they would rule on that issue. IF Roe v Wade were overturned abortions would still be available in numerous states that had laws that permitted it.

The precedence argument is a joke.

Precedence didn't start with Roe v Wade. It started thousands of years ago.

The Wisdom of Solomon comes to mind.

Oh, she's a Republican all right. One of the dirty little secrets of the GOP is that some of the strongest advocates of legalized abortion before Roe v. Wade were REPUBLICAN governors like Nelson Rockefeller (New York) and Ronald Reagan (California).

No nominee who can be tagged as anti-abortion can be confirmed.

Well she can’t ask them how they would vote....so it means looking at their record and guessing what they would do...without hearing any arguments. Not how the system works.

I can’t stand the rat in Republican clothing like this creep. Can’t stand her shrill voice and Parkinson like head shaking when she speaks along with her warble’y voice.

Just how long is Maine going to stay stuck with this awful senator, anyway?speaking nicely does NOT make for good government and certainly not for decent honorable policies or votes

Collins demonstrates a point I made over, and over, and over yesterday specific to appointing a Woman to the USSC, even one who claims to be pro-life and has seven children of her own.

As women age, they "moderate" their stances on so many things and abortion is one. Even if a woman claims to be solidly pro-life, the next half of any sentence proclaiming such inevitably includes a statement that they wouldn't want to remove that "choice" for another woman.

This right here is why identity politics is a BAD THING no matter which party plays it!

I agree. Are Maine voters this liberal to prefer her over a conservative nominee? How do these idiot voters even see a difference between a Susan Collins and a far left liberal? Is there even a difference?
