Orders are pouring into Columbia Steel Casting in North Portland. With the national economy surging, manufacturers are eager for the company's steel and iron components.
There's a problem, though: the economy is so good here in Oregon that Columbia Steel can't find enough workers to accommodate the growing demand. Columbia has 50 open positions at its 86-acre campus and it can't expand until it fills those jobs.
"It stops us from growing but it's even making it difficult for us just to meet current customer demand," said Martha Cox, Columbia Steel's chief executive.
Simple easy solution. If they want workers, pay more money.
with the cost of living out there... a hell of alot more money.
Those students who are “enriching” themselves by concentrating on their liberal “studies” programs instead of gaining employable skills are really missing out.
Even if they wanted to get jobs, what makes anyone think they are qualified? Employees in a Plant work hard.
Maybe they can cull some workers out of the homeless bums in makeshift tents there in leftist Portland. Then again they may be too lazy and drug addled to be worth a damn to work.
Maybe the company owner should have handed out job application forms to the anti-fa folks at yesterday’s riot.
“Additionally, a growing number of employers say prospective hires cannot pass a drug test.”
Sounds like they got a problem with the indoctrinated out there.
Expand job postings to other areas.
Offer signing and requiting bonuses.
Offer perks, incentives, and benefits.
Offer part time shifts for people who want part time second jobs.
ain’t no antifa fag gonna work at a blue collar job
Tell me about it, I was looking at Portland rent a few weeks ago, just comparing different cities and it was as expensive as New York city, freakin’ $1500 -$2000 a month for a one bedroom apt, they’re insane. What is it with the coastal states and housing? You look in the middle states, the ones run by Republicans like Kansas, the rent is ridiculously cheap, $1500 you could rent a 5 bedroom mansion, but then you get to the coastal states run by leftist wackos and the rents shoot through the roof not to mention the taxes. Why are people choosing to live there? Is being by the sea some kind of necessity? I use to live in New York city it was the absolute worst time of my life, even if you are rich you are still absolutely killed by the cost and taxes. When I moved I finally realized how incredibly difficult leftists had made my life so it baffles me why people want to move there, they’re just naive as hell.
“Earn Big in Accordion Repair!”
Also- Many of today’s ‘applicants’ can NOT pass the drug tests.
The snowflakes think no one should even think of testing them for drugs.
Open and liberal Portland loves "urbans" but there is sadly a dearth of them in that lovely city. Because it is a city in the far northwest there has traditionally been a critical shortage of "urbans". I believe the "urban" population of Portland is on the order of 5%, unlike Birmingham, Alabama or New Orleans each of which is blessed with colorful "urban" populations of over 60%.
The government must work to relocate jobless and homeless urbans to Portland, a town overflowing with tolerance and liberalism, not to mention plentiful job opportunities.
Are the illegals not working? Guess they have too much in free stuff to bother.
What a problem to have. Tariffs are working.
There are a lot of skilled SSI recipients out there who could still work 20-25 hours/week. Just let them keep the SSI checks and their wages TAX FREE.
Good plan. There has to be a fairly big disparity between SSI payouts and salary for work, to lift the incentive to find work.
CORRECTION:
recruiting bonuses.
Probably about 20% of the population here doesn’t want to work...ever. They’d rather get by on illicit selling of drugs, welfare of one sort or another, illegal activities to earn money or disability. They likely feel that work is for suckers.
