Before Trump’s Election, Amy Barrett Worried About Both Trump And Clinton
Daily Caller ^ | 07/02/2018 | Justin Caruso

Amy Barrett, the federal circuit court judge who many are speculating could be President Trump’s next Supreme Court nominee, didn’t sound like his biggest fan before the election in 2016.

During a November 3rd, 2016 speech at Jacksonville University, Barrett said “who knows” what a Trump court would look like, and even said that she was worried about either candidate choosing another justice.

“He’s obviously not bound to do so. I think it would be maybe more of a mixed bag. I think maybe Trump would appoint some that were more in the mold of Scalia, maybe some more in the mold of Kennedy — who knows? I think we may well end up with a moderate to more conservative court on judicial role. I think it is safe to say it probably wouldn’t be as hard to the left-leaning side on the approach to constitutional questions as, as Hillary would.”

Real title: Before Trump’s Election, Amy Barrett Said She Was Worried About Both Trump And Clinton Picking SCOTUS Justices
Two points:
1) Many people were not sure about Trump before he was in office.
2) The things she said in this article, being unsure about Trump, may help her be confirmed, because they arguably make her look less ideological.

She is one of those gal judges who will "grow" and "evolve" with the role. She is full of "compassion" and "for the children".

Reagan and especially Bush nominated a lot of unknowns and we paid a price for that (oconnor Sutter). No more unknowns, when in doubt throw em out, there’s got to be a reliable conservative somewhere in all the bunch and a way to tell.

This is the video referenced in the article. It’s important to watch and listen to her own words.

She’s really quite brilliant and the liberal hysteria about her is ridiculous.

Here is a link to the full speech (55 minutes).

Might be worth watching if she gets nominated.

She may be conservative but I would prefer male. Female tends to evolve

People who make sweeping generalizations about people they don’t even know are usually “full of” something too.

“During a November 3rd, 2016 speech at Jacksonville University...”

This was less than a week before the election. Trump’s list had been out for quite a while. Was she ignorant or just another NeverTrumper?

I’m against appointing a woman just for the sake of appointing a woman. However, the asinine comments here directed at Barrett, simply BECAUSE she is a woman are the very definition of groupthink and hypocrisy. It’s exactly what the left does.

Barrett has a history of being quit Conservative. She’s was a Scalia clerk and pupil and her writing and history shows that she is in the mold of Scalia.

History is full of male “conservatives” who drifted to the left on the court.

To make insane comments like “women tend to evolve” when history has shown no such thing.

There have only been four women on the court. None of them evolved.

Ginsburg, Kagan and Sotomayor are and were hardcore leftists when they were appointed and they remain so.

O’Connor was a squishy moderate when Reagan nominated her, and she remained that way throughout her term on the court.

There are far more examples of males who were promised to be conservative who went full libtard after they were appointed.

Read the article. She refers to Trump’s first list.

She referred to the list of 25 and was concerned about the quality of the justice.

She was ignorant or she was a NeverTrumper. Your choice.

I would have thrown Roberts with an Obamacare* notation in that list.

Indeed - some of these comments are ridiculous - that we have a long history supposedly of female SCOTUS nominees who “grow” and drift to the left. We’ve had one - count them - one female GOP SCOTUS nominee. No others. In 5-4 decisions she was the deciding vote on many cases, the overwhelming majority of the time she was with the conservative bloc, though also on the other side on some rather big cases...however, her philosophy was fairly consistent over her 25 year tenure as a Justice. The comments made above by many are objectively false statements. We do, however, have a long history of GOP male SCOTUS nominees drifting to the left - sometimes dramatically to the left. Souter actually was conservative very early in his tenure, voting with Scalia a majority of the time. However, in the end, he was one of the most liberal members of the court, if not the most liberal, in competition with Stevens (also a male GOP appointee).

I don't know much about the specifics of these people, but I do expect a pre-emptive psyops war to make Trump's most threatening choices appear to be the most unacceptable.

As with any other breaking news, I won't rely on the early reporting to have any veracity at all.
