Eisenhower and helped enact legislation to create the Interstate Highway System. Bush won re-election in 1956 but declined to seek re-election in 1962, retiring from the Senate the following year.
Right he had not been a Senator for at least a decade prior to HW’s appointment nor has he been that office since 55 yrs ago. I doubt that was a major factor in his appointment.

I'm assuming your reply was cut and paste from some source....because how the hell does a Junior Senator "help" pass a bill that was finally passed in the Senate by a vote of 89 to 1. Didn't have enough juice to influence anyones votes. Doesn't look like there was a final struggle at all in either chamber, after the usual posturing and holding out for more pork.
