Amul Thapar: Trump Country's Perfect SCOTUS Choice
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2018 | Scott Jennings

Amul Thapar: Trump Country's Perfect SCOTUS Choice President Trump — already a conservative hero for appointing Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court and for his swift remaking of the federal appellate courts — can again make history by choosing Judge Amul Thapar of Kentucky to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. Thapar, the son of Indian immigrants who came to America legally, is the product of public schools in Toledo, Ohio. He was the first ever judge of South Asian descent appointed to the federal bench and would be the first person of any Asian heritage appointed to the Supreme Court. Thapar is a history-making choice for a president who loves to make history. Trump often zigs when other presidents would have zagged, as the Washington Post noted this weekend, and he can again defy “the swamp” by appointing someone like Thapar who is squarely from outside of it. For conservatives, Thapar is a dream choice. He’s an originalist, a term associated with Justices Clarence Thomas, Gorsuch and the late Antonin Scalia. Imagine a Supreme Court where the two leading conservative originalists are an African-American and an Indian-American. Trump can absolutely shatter the stereotypes liberals throw at Republicans by having Thapar join Thomas to defend and indeed crusade for the U.S. Constitution.

President Trump could nominate Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, or Martin Luther King, and the left would do everything in their power to destroy them.

This sounds awesome. With his top few picks, I’m not sure if the degree of resistance even matters, I think it will be high, but they will look pretty crappy if they fight someone like this.

Anyone remember Sandy Day O’Connor and what a monstrous disappointment SHE turned out to be?

No. And even so, in the Leftist world, there are not just minorities, but a hierarchy of minorities.

Here’s a likely order, but could change around some of these:
Gay
Transgender
Illegal Hispanic Alien
Black
Illegal Alien Third World (non-Hispanic)
Native American
Muslim
Non-European in general
Women
Atheists
Asians
Poor
White
Males
Christian
Catholic
Protestant
Evangelical

I don’t know about that, but if true that makes it an even better choice.

"Let's hope he gets three or four more vacancies to fill..."

I'd settle for two Ruth the Badger Ginsburg and that wise Latina broad...

I don’t know him, but the fact people call him an “originalist” is very positive.

I don’t like people who are described as “Catholic,” “Progressive” or “Conservative” or by another label, or those who are identified on one issue

Follow the Constitution, as written. That all that’s needed.

Demographically speaking, the liberals should not be in any position to do a Bork job on him. Wassa matter, you got something against dark-skinned persons of Eastern Asia descent?

Cuffing hypocrites. And racist too.

No, this guy is the real thing. He’s been around the block, much more than some of the others. The fact that not one democrat voted for him shows he’s the real deal.

That is a good point. But the Dims will conveniently attack any ethnicity (Clarence Thomas) if it doesn’t line up with their ideology - they would do everything to make people forget he would be the first Indian American on the court, whereas if he were a Lefty, their cries would be, “Confirm him or you must be racist!”
