Lee met with Trump about Supreme Court opening
The hill ^ | July 3, 2018

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) interviewed with President Trump about the looming Supreme Court vacancy, the senator’s communications director confirmed Tuesday.

Conn Carroll tweeted confirmation of a Deseret News story that said Lee met with Trump on Monday about the opening that will be created by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement at the end of the month.

Lee, who has expressed interest in the high court in the past, told the news outlet that he spoke with Trump about the position, but did not offer further details.

The senator indicated again last week he's open to being nominated as a Supreme Court justice. He is on the president's list of 25 potential candidates that Trump said he'd use to select Kennedy's replacement, and would seem to have the support of his Republican colleagues in the Senate.

Trump told reporters on Monday that he’d met with four potential nominees to replace Kennedy. The president praised them as “outstanding people," but did not provide their names. He said he plans to meet with two or three more candidates before making a final decision “over the next few days.”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was equally tight-lipped about the identity of Trump's preferred candidates. She said Trump met with four candidates on Monday for 45 minutes, but declined to name names.

The Washington Post reported that federal appeals court judges Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett were among the individuals who met with Trump. Both are considered frontrunners to be nominated as Kennedy's replacement.c

The president said on Friday he had narrowed his list of 25 possible nominees to five, including two women. He has said he plans to announce the pick on July 9.

[after Trump had the GOP nomination sewn up he was in charge of a movement on the floor to try & stop Trump from moving forward...for what? So that Hillary could win easily in November.]

Helping Hillary was not their intention. They believed, as Hillary did, that Trump’s nomination meant a surefire victory for Hillary. And, in fact, Hillary did win the popular vote by about 3m votes. What they hadn’t reckoned on was the possibility that Trump’s focus on the Rust Belt, combined with Hillary’s overconfidence and neglect of the region in favor of a quixotic attempt to win Georgia and a few other red states would result in razor-thin margins for Trump in the Rust Belt states that would elevate him to the presidency. Hillary kicked Bill’s advice to the curb so she could say she did it her way. She certainly did.

Hillary did not win the popular vote. She won a plurality. Quit spewing Lib talking points.

So the President surprised us, and a rumor from yesterday was not true. Mike Lee is good on the Second Amendment. Good choice!

Pres Trump is not one to invite a second betrayal. Betray him once shame on you. Betray him twice is not in his nature to bring shame on himself for being naive or stupid. Lee has years to be a good senator and time will tell where he actually stands politically.

She won more of it than Trump did. And in most jurisdictions, a plurality is all it takes to win a seat. Note that Nixon got 43.4% of the popular vote in 1968.

Another possibility I’ve found, Noel Francisco, age 48, Solicitor General of the United States.

He clerked for Scalia. His father was from the Philippines.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Francisco

“The United States Solicitor General is the person appointed to represent the federal government of the United States before the Supreme Court of the United States.”

Never hurts to butter up the senate. Zero chance he’ll get it.

I agree. I think it will be Amy Coney Barrett.

After Ginsberg croaks, I hope her replacement will be Amul Thapar.

Mike Lee has a life time rating of 97.43 from the American Conservative Union. I guess I will forgive him his idiocy about Trump since he is on our side in most other things

Lee has recently written a book where he outlined that Roe V. Wade was unconstitutional and a travesty towards the Constitution. His views on this are published.

Lee was dense....had no feel for the populism that was spreading. A lot of folks had Trump winning all along.

Lee’s judgment sucked.

Your comment was/is factually incorrect. Stop spewing Liberal talking points. More people voted against Clinton than for her.

There was a lot of that among Mormons. Trump cusses therefore he is unworthy. Whereas a snake like Romney is acceptable because he has the polly pure language of an 8 yr old girl.

Given Trump’s razor thin margins (~1%) in the states (FL, WI, PA, MI) where he won the election, and Hillary’s 3m popular vote plurality, it was spreading without being widespread:

In the end, it’s not so much about Trump, but Lee’s maturity & stability.

In what world do you pull a stunt like he did on the floor at a GOP nomination? I’m pleased with his voting record BTW, but don’t want him on the court.

Kavanaugh white washed Vince Foster's murder at Fort Marcy. Deep State roots run deep.
