They are conflating lawful requirements for painkillers with unlawful and highly addictive opiods such as meth.
To me the point of the article is that the demand for the drugs, both opioid as well as meth and most notably Fentanyl are supplied in a large part by groups originating from outside the United States. China has been found as well to be a supplier of Fentanyl as a product worth taking the risk for. Closing the borders and monitoring more closely ports of entry like shipping and air freight will drive down the availability. as others have noted many of the illegals are mules, an acceptable casualty in a larger conspiracy to flood the market while it is still open
So please let's not sway off topic, there are many tangents to this and no one seeks to deny principled prescriptions for needy patients. But hiding behind that are the bad folks seeking to enslave our citizens to their own profit and to me there is a pretty fair possibility that some in our Government agencies are involved in keeping it alive.
Opinions vary, this is mine
Correct (as usual).
Meth aint an opioid and is busy being cooked everywhere
Meth is not an opioid. Its a synthetic amphetamine.

I have heard all about this drug epidemic. I haven’t even gotten a taste......
Yes, but you cant really regulate the illegal market, and bureaucrats need jobs. Plus all the old and sick should just die already. Its not like refusing pain medications is torture; at least not as bad as putting womens panties on your head.
Just because THERE HAS BEEN NO STATISTICAL INCREASE IN OPIOID DEATHS AT ALL ONCE FENTANYL IS EXCLUDED is no reason to start laying off Federal agents or thinking we dont need more intrusive malevolent legislation. These people need jobs, and everyone should be willing to give up their excess Constitutional rights to ensure the children are protected from people who take medications for chronic pain.
Just because FENTANYL ISNT BEING PRESCRIBED ILLEGALLY THROUGH PILL MILLS is no excuse not to persecute doctors who try to manage patients pain.
Never let a crisis go to waste! Always remember, RESTRICTING LEGITIMATE PRESCRIPTIONS INCREASES THE ILLICIT MARKET which, in turn, completely justifies the restriction and enables the growth of government which is the primary purpose of government.

Whoa man. Meth aint an Opi.
Methamphetamine is not an opioid.
Meth is the opposite of an opioid.
