Doug Ford ends cap and trade in Ontario
The Toronto Sun ^ | July 2018 | Antonella Artuso

Premier Doug Ford has officially revoked cap and trade — and is now starting to wrap up initiatives funded by the doomed program.

“Cap-and-trade and carbon tax schemes are no more than government cash grabs that do nothing for the environment while hitting people in the wallet in order to fund big government programs,” Ford said in a statement Tuesday. “I promised that the party with taxpayers’ dollars was over and that this would include scrapping the cap-and-trade, carbon tax slush fund.”

“Without government subsidies, wind and solar are not competitive.“

Yep, kinda like the crossdressing guy competing as a girl.

“Doug Ford is just like his brother: a big fat slob and obnoxious ahole”

Rob Ford was the best Canadian entertainer in the past 10 years.

Wind subsidies per energy unit are something like 3 times natural gas unit price. Turbine life expectations have dropped from around 25 years to around 15 years.

When the subsidies disappear and the turbines and towers start requiring widespread rebuild/replacement, we’ll start seeing true costs...

Rob Ford was a Chris Farley lookalike if ever there was one. Similar in affect as well!

My personal Rob Ford fav was the video of him "attacking" a fellow legislator. Female. He could actually run and did. Right at her!

My aren’t you a little Miss Sunshine.

Since I don not know much about Doug Ford other than he won an election in Canada, and nothing of his brother, and you post states nothing but an opinion, I say I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

If his first official act was to end “cap and trade” I would go on to say perhaps he has done for that portion of Canada he is in then you ever did “fat slob or not”

You low information voters need to catch up on this subject.

You see its like this in 2015, republicans and the dems made a deal on budget. The dems would consent to the change export laws on US Crude, and the repblicans would allow the renewable energy credits to extend for 5 more years, but each year the subsidy reduces until it is zero.

But that is not problem because renewable prices keep falling.

The reverse auction of the purchase power agreement(PPA) is driving these prices way down because these agreements last for a minimum of 10 years and sometimes 20 years, and maybe up to 50 years. Of course you can't do that nat gas, coal, or fuel oil. They can accurately predict what it will cost build the fossil fuel power plant but they can't predict what the price of their fossil fuel will be 6 months, much less 10 years.

When you switch to renewable, the boom/bust cycles of fossil energy no longer affects the industry or the overall economy

Did you forget the /s tag? Or are you just an Algorilla troll? Cheap renewable energy is like cheap Obama care. It’s “cheap to you”. Someone is paying the differences in rates, investment, and misuse of the energy grid. Rate payers and taxpayers heavily subsidize renewables. They wouldn’t exist on their own.

For every renewable watt used there must be traditional watt of capacity. See a windmill has 0 energy capacity if the wind isn’t blowing. Then what? You fire up the coal, oil, gas, or radiation.

You are wrong, the renewable grid will look nothing like fossil grid, which actually isn't a grid but a collection of interconnected spoke and wheels of highly centralized power.

With renewables, generation will be vey dense and decentralized and batteries will be everywhere the will be large grid batterys installed all over and behind the meter batteries will be everywhere and even associations will be installing batteries.

The HVDC power lines will be everywhere with the capability moving large amounts of power for very long distances. The renewable grids of the future will span nations.

Show me the numbers.. The real numbers, not the ones the “environmentalist” make up. The wholesale price of electricity in TX does go WAY down when the wind blows because there isn’t enough demand at 2 AM.

The Greenies never tell you about the Nat Gas turbines they had to build to back up the wind farms when the wind stops blowing.
