Who cares what pot does for "cancer pain"? Did they test Budweiser or Jack Daniels as well?
Why shouldn't pot be as legal as those recreational substances? Why does the U.s. government get to decide one is ok and the other is not?

Because one is harder to tax than the other.

Marijuana is competition to alcohol when it comes to getting a buzz and it's much harder to evade taxes on alcohol than marijuana. Even the poorest among us - with nothing to confiscate if the tax isn't paid - can grow it.
