What! Destroy the socialist role model of the Western hemisphere. The “B” ( their currency) is a strong 3.5 million to dollar. Oil production is plummeting for environmental reasons of course. The people are all loosing weight. It is a liberal dream

The nation that will invade Venezuela if it happens will be Columbia. If Columbia does such it will be to stop the humanitarian disaster in Venezuela that is spilling over their borders.
An odd point of history is when FARC, a hard left communist movement, destabilized much of Columbia many Colombians fled to the then free Venezuela. Today the exact reverse is happening. Columbia must be lauded for taking in many as did Venezuela in the past. Their is only so much Columbia can do before addressing the real problem that is in Venezuela.
The Western States of Venezuela have been anti Chavez in the past and today are anti Maduro. It would not take much for an armed rebellion to occur in the West of Venezuela if supported by Columbia. This could be by support of rebel forces or frank intervention by the Colombian Army.
The real hell of it is the Army of Venezuela is but a farce. It can put down civilian protestors that are not armed. Against a real professional army such as Columbia has, it would fold. In fact many of the Venezuelan Army would fight on the side of Columbia.
Venezuela has great oil wealth in the East and the West of the nation. In fact the greater oil reserves are in the East but it is heavy crude and is hard to produce and has less value. The cheap easy crude to produce is the western crude of the Maracaibo basin. If Columbia took this area on their border they would be welcomed as liberators.
If such were to happen the rest of Venezuela would be in a total civil war with no economic base.
I lived in Venezuela in the seventies before Chavez. At that time it was good, and had the highest standard of living in South America. Today it is a failed state.

Many decades ago, when I was just out of college, I had a short term, but really nice, relationship with a young woman from a wealthy Jewish family in Venezuela.
After Chavez, and then Maduro, seized power, I have often wondered if their family business was expropriated, or if they had to flee the country because of anti-Semitism.
