For decades, the Republican Party and Democrats have been largely aligned on promoting job-killing multinational free trade deals like NAFTA and KORUS, both of which aided in opening up overseas markets for multinational companies to outsource their American manufacturing jobs to countries like Mexico, leaving millions of Americans laid off in the process.
If Trump had not immediately stopped the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement when he took office, economists estimated that not only would the elimination of millions of American jobs have occurred, but U.S. wages would have been further depleted.
American workers have repeatedly praised Trumps tariffs and thanked him personally for ending the promotion of multinational free trade by the U.S.
Republican lawmakers are sticking to their globalist free trade agenda and opposing President Trumps America First tariffs despite the popularity the tariffs have with GOP voters and conservatives. Trump, most recently, has put protective tariffs on imported goods and materials such as steel, aluminum, washing machines, Canadian lumber, electronics from China, and solar panels in an effort to boost American industries and protect American workers jobs.
In the latest Harvard/Harris Poll, 83 percent of Republican voters say they support tariffs on imported products like automobiles and electronics. Additionally, 81 percent of conservatives said they too supported tariffs, along with 61 percent of Americans living in rural communities.

Yet we have millions who will vote for a Republican in November.
Will union members vote for help for him in the fall? If they do the RATS are done.
Surely steel workers, automobile workers, construction, mining can see what in front of their faces.
Tariffs are excellent political and retaliatory instruments which Trump is willing use to get rid of them. A perfectly competitive world is no country have tariffs, this would lead to the optimum allocation of resources and greater wealth creation. But this world is far from perfect.
He knows they make no overall economic sense.
My guess is taking this course to draw workers to the GOP. It is a bomb thrown into the enemies camps.
Trump may not let it get that far. It’s principle use is towards the fall elections.
Funny how the philo-tariffers take no notice of the jobs lost if exports drop when the furreners raise their tariffs and buy less of our goods. They only look at its effect on job creation as though there are not job loses.
You are lying about who is lying.
I notice the media is not reporting that Merkel has backed down and is pushing for lowering their tariffs on American cars - more winning and not reported.
Spoken like a true gloBULList. You and your ilk are the enemy of patriots everywhere my friend. Stalin and Hitley, both globalists, talked about the "world" resources and spreading the wealth too.
Globalism, dissolving or lessening border control to undermine the nation-state and the will of the people in those nation-states. It is the opposite of nationalism.
Symptoms
You economic traitors want it both ways: A lack of tariffs costs us jobs and lowers wages, a proven historical and economic fact. Then, comically(actually dangerously), you then try to tell us a tariff will do the same thing! Two paths going in opposite directions can’t lead to the same place. What a bunch of brain washed robots you Free Traitors are. You deserve contempt.
What flaws do you refer to? Free trade is aimed at the optimal allocation of economic resources which implies minimum government involvement. Tariffs lead to much more government involvement in market place decisions.
It is a Knife’s Edge to walk.
It is quite obvious that workers are lacking in this economy.
Help Wanted is everywhere in NC.
None of those characterizations are true.
Market prices determine resource optimally. Not market prices as the government produces.
International trade is not a zero sum game. Both sides win if there are no market distortions.
There is not labor shortage, there is a wage shortage. After 30 years of being on top the ruling corporate class doesn't know how to handle raising wages, a tightening labor market,or how to attract Americans that demand respect.
Tell that to the community that loses it's factory and real estate plunges all to increase the bottom line by 2%. There are indeed winners and LOSERS in "free trade".
How much can you sell a poor country? What if it is rich? Which would you prefer?
Comrade Globalist you have every right to expect and demand free trade between say Alabama and Nevada. But not between the USA and China. Thank God for patriots like Donald Trump. Hopefully we can transform this economy without having to hang any Free Traitors.
Insufficient supply of labor draws out more labor through higher wages.
Many people who won’t work for $15 an hour will for $20
If the government allows it.
I don’t want to sell anything to any other country. The USA is unique in that it CAN and has been in the past totally self sufficient in everything except exotic fruit and minerals like oil.
The government set FLOOR on wages not a CEILING. You are delusional, again.
