The cost of tariffs have not hit yet. Once price increases and job losses hit, they will not be remain popular with the base because they will be the ones most affected. Trade and tariff wars do not end well for all involved.

Despite their best efforts brand new factories are still being built in the USA all the time. Not as many as are closed mind you but the situation is dynamic and not static. With more domestic supply will mean pressure to reduce prices.
