Alan Dershowitz claims former friends are 'shunning' him for his defence of Donald Trump

Alan Dershowitz, the lawyer and academic, has revealed he has been "shunned" by former friends on Martha's Vineyard because of his defence of President Donald Trump.

The 73-year-old former Harvard Law professor claims liberal elites have closed ranks to exclude him from their social circles on the wealthy Massachusetts island because of his defence of the president's civil liberties.

Mr Dershowitz, who famously defended OJ Simpson, has been a vocal critic of the decision to appoint a special counsel to investigate the US president for possible Russian collusion in the 2016 election.

Why would any sensible person want to be friends with the Martha’s Vineyard crowd? It’s the same reason everyone in MASH could stand Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester. They’re boorish.

There are definite advantages for normal, mentally healthy adults who support Trump...

Who needs friends who are hysterical snowflakes and over 18 years old?

Moving right along...

True. Say what you want about Dershowitz and we likely agree on little politically, but he has remained consistent even as he claimed to be “liberal.” There are many old school “liberals” who are coming to realize that the new “liberals” are much farther to the left than they are on a whole host of subjects.

The left is splintering before our eyes. Union voters are peeling away from the new left. Christians who formed the soft left are peeling away. The Jewish vote is fracturing against the new left that increasingly appears anti-semetiic. Minority voters are slowly trickling away from the left.

The democrats appear to be in trouble. They can make their enclaves more blue, but they are weakening the purple areas of the map they must have to gain power.
I am still nervous about the mid-term elections, but there are reasons to be optimistic assuming the Trump vote turns out.

DERSHOWITZ--I will not change my views as a result of these attempts to ostracize me.....Silence is not my style. Cowardice is not my philosophy. I intend to speak up when I disagree with Republicans, and I intend to speak up when I disagree with Democrats. Right now I am speaking up in disagreement with Maxine Waters. She — like those who shun me on Martha’s Vineyard — is part of the problem rather than the solution.

Okay by me, Dersh.

This explains liberals in a nutshell. They embraced him when he defended murderer OJ Simpson, and shunned him when he defended President Trump.

“No one has real friends that live in Martha’s Vineyard.”

For heaven’s sake, the people that are shunning him don’t LIVE there, they vacation there.

I have had relatives that have LIVED on The Vineyard for 100 years.

So? Make new friends. All of us have lost a friend over politics. It only seems to go one way (generally) - the lib “unfriends” the conservative.

Alan, sorry to break it to you, but if they are shunning you for disagreeing with their (rather twisted) world view, then they were never really your friends. They might have liked to hang out with you for one or more of several reasons, but they weren’t your friends. Friends can agree to disagree, friends can even give you a good ribbing when they believe (or are) that they are right, friends look for and celebrate the common ground that you both share. Friends don’t shun you.

“No one has real friends that live in Martha’s Vineyard.”

A plastic place, if I ever saw one. If one doesn’t conform to what “they believe,” he is ostracized, shunned, slandered and ridiculed. My thought on this is, “You tell me that if I don’t do what you think I should do, you won’t like me. If I do what I don’t want to do I won’t like me!”

So, stuff it, who needs friends like you?

You are always your own best friend.

Welcome to the club, Dershowitz. We’ve been dealing with people like that long before Trump arrived on the scene.
