Trump has also been consulting with lawmakers — including Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who has expressed reservations about Kavanaugh’s candidacy, according to a person familiar with the call.

President Trump has promised a nominee by the 9th (he could fudge a day or two.) McConnell wants to have a vote in September (right during the campaign season) so that the new justice can be on the Supreme Court when it opens its session on the first Monday in October.

It appears that there are seven candidates.

Rand being an a-hole again.

Meaning that senators should shut up and rubber stamp any nominee a president puts forward? Yeah, I think I saw that in the Constitution.

I have a few reservations about Kavanaugh myself, since he seems to be the choice of the establishment wing of the Republican party and seems to be heavily campaigning for the position which is a bit unseemly, while I don’t think he would be a Souter, he could end up being more like John Roberts than Alito or Thomas.

Rand Paul is right, Kavanaugh would be a bad choice, someone else needs to be nominated.

Rand Paul is the most principled member of the Senate.

On the contrary, better to let Trump know now than come out against after the hearings. Forewarned is forearmed. Trump has much better people on his list. I don’t know much about Kavanaugh but the fact that he Dubya and Hugh Hewitt were both big fans worries me. He sounds like another Roberts more than a Scalia.

He’s HRC’s boy..

Miguel Rodriguez discovered that the investigators were treating witnesses inappropriately. Deputy Independent Counsels John Bates and Mark Tuohey and Associate Independent Counsel Brett Kavanaugh used the FBI to harass and intimidate witnesses who had no reason to lie. Witnesses who told investigators Foster’s gray car was not at Fort Marcy Park were re-interviewed, harassed, and intimidated. The goal of Starr’s office was to silence witnesses whose accounts contradicted its desired result.

I don’t care who it is, as long as he or she clerked with Scalia. They learn everything they know from the justice they clerk for.

They’ve been vetting and searching since the day the president was sworn in, actually before that. They know these men and women. It’s a matter of timing and upcoming elections and the truly awful division in the country that all must be considered.

“Rand Paul is the most principled member of the Senate.”

No, he isn’t. He’s an attention seeker. If he was principled he would have supported Trump and wouldn’t have the lies about Trump that he said.

Rand Paul is a major liberal.

He lies about people by making false accusations.

He supports amnesty for illegal aliens.

Rand easily fools the feeble minded into thinking he’s the one holding firm on principles. He does this by going against everyone else on anything else.

Rand is loved by liberals because he is a liberal.

A-hole? I’d say a “principled conservative.” I’d rather not have a Bushie aide on the Court. He’s Justice Kennedy’s pick too. Neither of those things are positives. He’s not an Originalist either. I’m with Rand on this one: no more mainstream, establishment Republicans on the Court when we can put a true conservative on there instead.

I don’t know if I should find it amusing or disturbing that so many here are attacking Rand for insisting on an actual conservative on the Court when we have both the presidency and the Senate. From what I’ve read of him, at best Kavanaugh would be another Roberts, at worst another Kennedy (although if he is the pick, I sincerely hope I’m wrong on this). I think we can do better than that.

I hope somebody in the WH is paying attention here.
Kavanaugh is at best a Deep State gofer, and possibly a real HRC tool.

So, do the politic thing instead of what he believes is best for the nation.

I can not agree with that.

I am thinking about what’s best for the nation. Ultimately limos and plane rides have no effect. Taming the EPA has huge effects.

Agreed. I’d rather Trump name someone into his mid-’50s than either someone without a substantial judicial record or with a problematic judicial or other record.
