Face it. The era of big surface capital ships is over. Stealthy missiles, stealthy drones, stealthy small boats and satellite and electronic surveillance spells their doom in combat with a technologically competent opponent.
When someone takes out a carrier people are going to remember the moment like people remember the sinking of the Repulse and Prince of Wales.
Eggshells fighting with hammers.
Stealthy missiles, stealthy drones, stealthy small boats and satellite and electronic surveillance spells their doom in combat with a technologically competent opponent.
Except, those stealthy missiles have to be launched from somewhere. Same for the stealthy drones. And I don’t expect stealthy small boats to be launched from Naval Base Charleston, or Mayport, FL, etc.
Now, the ever larger aircraft carriers? No. I would prefer to have a smaller, more nimble fleet. The destroyers of today would be cruisers (heavy at that) of World War II. Smaller, more maneuverable, and better armed and armored, frankly, that’s the way to go.
/but, I’m a nobody in Texas, so don’t ask me.
