Guess Portlandia is about to begin purging its police ranks.
None of this will be reported in Portland.
When I was there and got involved in 2010, the police said the same thing.
Portland has become a militant version of San Francisco and unlikely to change until they start sending Antifa to long prison time.

Anywhere and everywhere these right wing groups show up the public will disapprove, local govt will be in fear, and local police worry that it will spin out of control like Charlottesville.
Whether it is Proud Boys at this location, or League of the South at Murfreesboro, or Richard Spencer at Univ of Florida, the authorities will be trying to shut them down

They had a lawfully issued permit. The Leftist goons didn’t.

So, using lefty thinking, whoever had the permit was responsible for whatever happened, good or bad. That sounds about right. To them.
What’s the point of getting a permit if you get shut down anyway?
The police know the Leftists groups will be lawyered up and the Right will not. They see any protest by non-Leftists as “asking for trouble”.
So the Left and Westboro Baptists will always be protected.
If you go out and get a permit, you are a law-abiding citizen. Law-abiding citizens do not cause trouble. If the city comes along and says, “So sorry. Looks like things are getting rough. We're pulling your permit. Please go home.” Well, most of the law-abiding citizens will just ... go home.
But the crooks don't care about the laws. They don't ask for permits. And they don't go home when they are asked to. Things are “getting rough”? That's the idea! That's why they are there! Why would they leave??
Government suppresses the rights of the law-abiding and turns a blind eye to the criminal element.
That can't go on forever. At some point, the law-abiding citizens will realize they are played for suckers and they will stop being so polite.

It doesn't matter what low-level officers think. Their political masters will tell them what to do, and they will do it or lose their jobs and pensions. Including firing upon conservatives.
All the articles covering the event deal with after the riot, and all the local media has access to the police reports and statements by the federal officers.
And the media is presenting the story as a sequence of events, so you can see which event led to the permit being pulled and which event led to the declaration of a riot.

Yet the rank and file cops still let leftist chiefs, mayors, and prosecutors use them as paid bullies to selectively enforce the law against conservatives - and even worse.
Never forget San Jose Convention Center: All those vaunted rank and file cops herded citizens like sheep to the slaughter, and an undercover cop saw citizens “running for their lives” - yet they all allowed it.
