It could rain for a week and I wouldn’t complain. LOL! The temp is now down to 74. Feels like heaven, and I’d go sit on the porch if it weren’t for the mosquitoes. I have stuff to put on, but they still find a way to bite me. Nasty little devils!

I know you’re excited to get back to the museum and see what you pull out of those bags. :)

LOL! I almost picked the ‘70s for tonight, too. Changed my mind at the last minute. Cool choice, radu!

I heard that Frank Sinatra always recorded live in the studio with the instrumentalists and singers who were backing him up. The tracks were not recorded separately and then spliced together as was done by many, if not most other artists.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

JEROME KERN

SWING TIME: “PICK YOURSELF UP”

From the Paris of Le Jazz Hot in the Thirties came Grappelli, whose career spanned decades. This is from a live concert in 1988 from Paris.

Stephane Grappelli: “Pick Yourself Up”

Here’s a treat from 1973. Suppose Mozart had written this song. The great jazz violinist and one of the great classical violinists team for this effort.

Stephane Grappelli & Yehudi Menuhin: “Pick Yourself Up”

As badly as you need rain, that’s easy to believe!

Our temps are about the same now and it does feel nice, doesn’t it? It’s still a little soupy here though. We’ll be soupy for a while since there are rain chances for the next week. Small chances but it still means muggy weather.

Yes, it was nice getting back to work at the museum after they were closed a couple of weeks. I hope to get the crate I’ve been working out of emptied before they unpack more uniforms and pile those into it or move another crateful to the corner. I know there are at least 4 crates full of nothing but uniforms in the shop building.

They’re covered with bags after I clean them - - garment bags from a dry cleaners. :-)

SWING TIME: “PICK YOURSELF UP”

Andre Previn became one of the great orchestra conductors of the Russian repertory, Rachmaninov in particular. But he never completely left his roots in jazz in the Fifties. Here he backs Sylvia in a 1993 effort.

LOL! It wouldn’t have mattered if we’d both gone with ‘70s. Odds are we’d have chosen different music.

I’m signing off. Got a few things to do before hitting the sack and hoping for sleep to come early tonight. Not easy when one is used to going to sleep at sunrise.

Catch ya tomorrow evening!

From 1999 this is a wonderfully laid back take on the tune.
