Where Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh stands on key issues

Kavanaugh, 53, currently serves as a judge on the powerful US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Here's where he stands on some hot-button issues:

Abortion

Because he was a swing-vote in favor of abortion rights, Kennedy's departure from the court has sparked alarm among abortion rights activists that Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion nationwide in 1973, could be overturned. In addition, Trump has long vowed to appoint justices who would reverse Roe and allow states to determine whether abortion should be legal.

Kavanaugh has not expressed outright opposition to Roe v. Wade.

One of his opinions likely to draw scrutiny from senators is a his dissent from a ruling of the DC Circuit last October that an undocumented immigrant teen in detention was entitled to seek an abortion. In his dissent, Kavanaugh wrote the Supreme Court has held that "the government has permissible interests in favoring fetal life, protecting the best interests of a minor, and refraining from facilitating abortion."

He wrote that the high court has "held that the government may further those interests so long as it does not impose an undue burden on a woman seeking an abortion." He said the majority opinion was "based on a constitutional principle as novel as it is wrong: a new right for unlawful immigrant minors in US government detention to obtain immediate abortion on demand." He added, however, that "all parties to this case recognize Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey as precedents we must follow."

Didn’t Kavanaugh have something to do with on ruling in the Vince Foster case?.

Kavanaugh played a lead role in drafting the Starr Report, which urged the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
And yes, Kavanaugh led the investigation into the suicide of Clinton aide Vince Foster.

None of that matters. What matters is that he interprets laws as written, and/or decides on their constitutionality. F*ck cnn.

I suspect that a lot of the concern being expressed here is because Kavanaugh was not a real conservative’s first choice and here is why.

Kavanaugh toils in the DC swamp and is probably influenced by that environment. Because he is a DC insider he will be more palatable to the swamp-dwellers in the Senate and will probably sail thru the inquisition and be placed on the SC.

Unfortunately I expect him to drift left as the years pass hence he is almost an in-place replacement for the out-going judge. That is my concern.

The real screaming from the left will be when Buzzy kicks off and DJT nominates Amy to replace Buzzy on the SC.

There is nothing anywhere in the Constitution that supports the murder of the unborn. The is nothing in an writings or deliberations of the Founders that would indicate they would have ever considered the murder of the unborn a right! It was simply a political gesture by incompetent jurists!

Unless you are still inside your mothers womb! Then under our current laws you do not have a right to life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness!

I've read about a lot of concern in regards to Kavanaugh's rulings. Several were touched on here.

In each case, he ruled the way I would want him to. I have no concerns...yet.
