A resident of Boonville, Missouri, became a hero this week when he detained a convenience store robber at gunpoint until police arrived. What makes this story interesting is that our Good Samaritan, Jim Hayes, didnt have his gun on him while he was in the store. Nor was it in his car. In fact, the gun was in his home when the stick-up happened.
According to a witness, the robber (Elijah Carter, pictured above) took a knife and hammer from the counter and demanded the cash in the register. Thats when Hayes walked out of the store, got behind the wheel, drove home, got his gun, got back in his car, and returned to the store in time to stop the robbery attempt.
When the police arrived, they found Carter detained at gunpoint.
There were four other people, women, in the store, Jim said to reporters. I figured I got a minute or two to get home and get back and get my gun before he would be able to do anything.
Jennifer Surrat, whose daughter was working at the store, commented: We are so glad that someone took the time to pay attention and decided to return and help our daughter out. She was very scared. So thank you once again to the citizen and the BPD for their help getting this taken care of quickly.
I guess anybody in my position would have done the same thing. I didnt do anything special, Jim added. Im just glad I could be there to help and that nobody got hurt.
So are we, and were very glad Hayes had the luxury of time to execute a defensive gun use without the gun being immediately accessible.
Carter is now detained at the Cooper County Detention Center with a $150,000 bail and is being charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting, and receiving stolen property.
If Obama had a butt ugly son
Love his hair. Been a long time since I went there. Long, long time. /Boston
Will I have to dye my hair the same way?
If Obama had a son....
“...That’s one colorful suspect....”
Of course, he is. Why wouldn’t he be?
He’s one of Obama’s sons...they’re all “colorful”.
HELLO! There are NO defensive gun uses EVER. Gabby said so.
What the heck is tattooed on his forehead?
Every day we hear another story how an armed citizen saves the day.
From Wiki -
“The population was 8,319 at the 2010 census.”
When you’re in rural flyover country, the police are just 10 minutes away. Protect yourself.
By Bob Marley . . .
And Bloomberg, mayor of NYC said a cellphone by your bed is better than a gun - NYPD response time like 45 mins, maybe. The customer goes home gets the gun and is back at the business? Where’s the cops? Dunkin Donuts?
You think it’s dyed? I assumed that, like a sloth, he had algae growing in his hair.
Hi was trying to be incognito (no, not the football player).
Ok... Let’s do a role play.
Let’s say this happens to one of us. There’s a robbery. We drive a few blocks home, get our pistol and return.
The guy is still in the place with the hammer etc and he’s trying to rob the place.
What do you tell the guy to do? “Lie down on the floor with your arms in the air.”
Do you tell him that you will shoot him if he takes one step towards you?
What happens if the guys lunges for you and grabs your gun. The guy could be on you in a millisecond from 10 feet away. Grabs your gun.
What if you shoot him? Do you shoot to kill or shoot to wound.
I guess my point is this. You have an unarmed man robbing a store. He’s got a hammer, but he doesn’t have a gun.
You show up with a gun and you tell the guy to back off. He doesn’t back off and comes for you and you shoot him. Seems to me that you’re going to be sued.
Is there really really good gun owner’s insurance that will provide you legal representation?
Why drive home and get your gun and come back. Why not call 911?
This Space Available, perhaps?
That’s not “He Hate Me” is it?
Moral: don’t leave your firearm at home, notwithstanding the happy ending.
