AMLO said that the fact that Mexico has to send its poor people to the United States is a disgrace. I cannot argue with that.

Yes, it’s true. The saner Mexican politicians, few that they are, actually lament the fact that so many Mexicans go to the US to work. They feel that they are losing their best and most hard-working, which is true. But until they build a functioning economy, young people are going to keep on leaving.
Many people don’t realize that Mexico is already technically a socialist state. Therefore, everybody’s highest goal is government employment, and that is why there is so much corruption and so much economic stagnation. It’s also the reason that even their major cities don’t have potable water...and that the constant teachers’ union strikes result in some of the fewest days of schooling anywhere … and that criminal mafias run the towns.
It’s no wonder people can’t wait to leave, and I hope AMLO is serious about giving them a reason to stay.
