Rosenstein Asks Prosecutors to Help With Kavanaugh Papers in Unusual Request
The New York Times ^ | July 11, 2018 | Katie Benner

WASHINGTON — Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, has asked federal prosecutors to help review the government documents of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, according to a letter obtained by The New York Times on Wednesday.

Mr. Rosenstein’s request was an unusual insertion of politics into federal law enforcement. While the Justice Department has helped work on previous Supreme Court nominations, department lawyers in Washington typically carry out that task, not prosecutors who pursue criminal investigations nationwide.

But in an email sent this week to the nation’s 93 United States attorneys, Mr. Rosenstein asked each office to provide up to three federal prosecutors “who can make this important project a priority for the next several weeks.” Names were to be submitted to Mr. Rosenstein’s office by the end of Wednesday.

Kavanaugh does have a lot of opinions. One would think it would take time to get through all of them. Of course, Dems want it to go slowly, hoping to take the senate in the midterms. Not likely, but what other hope do they have?

The Republicans don't need the documents to confirm Kavanaugh, its the Democrats who want the documents to derail the nomination.

So how does this help Kavanaugh?

Also, read last paragraph. “The production of documents could slow down a confirmation hearing.....Democratic lawmakers say they want to inspect all of Judge Kavanaugh’s documents, including his staff work and over 300 opinions he has issued as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.”

Grassley is the one who schedules confirmation hearings, not the Democrats.

I guess this guy truly is untouchable.

That or they have gotten to the point where they no longer worry about doing certain things because nothing happens to them. They know they can get away with anything.

This sounds like yet another attempt by the corrupt FBI to taunt Trump into firing someone so the rats can than scream Trump is interfering in the endless investigation in search of a crime.

Yes, it's like a chess move where your attacking piece is protected by other pieces. However, the game may have another level that even RR doesn't understand.

I think it's likely Justice Kennedy made a deal with Trump to have himself replaced with Kavanaugh if he agreed to retire while Trump is POTUS. Trump may not want Kavanaugh on SCOTUS and is secretly hoping for something to float to the surface which takes Kavanaugh out of consideration.

If that happens Trump can honestly claim he upheld his end of the deal with Kennedy, but that weasel RR came along and dug up dirt, so whadda gonna do, that's life. Then he can nominate his real choice for the court.

To read this, one could easily assume Rosenstein is the AG.

Where is Sleepy Sessions on this? This has nothing to do his recusal.

Yes, exactly.

If you explained to people on the street how few of Trump's appointments to Main Justice have been confirmed by the Senate, here a year and a half after taking office, they would be shocked.

Allowing the normal document production by the DOJ for Kavanaugh to be handled by the Obama leftovers in Main Justice would lead to a high chance of delay and sabotage and not getting it done before the October Supreme Court term starts.

Look at the job the Obama leftovers have done in foot-dragging and redacting when it comes to satisfying congressional and FOIA demands for documents that might show wrongdoing during the Obama administration.

I take this as a sign Trump and Sessions are serious about getting Kavanaugh confirmed promptly and they will not allow it to be sabotaged from within.

This sounds very much like political interference in congressional matter, and a hidden threat to federal prosecutors that if they want to keep their jobs, they’d better find something to use against Judge Kavanagh.

Congress should immediately investigate Rosenstein and as AG Sessions to bar Rosenstein from carrying out this “hit” project.

Also, Rosenstein should be subpoenaed to appear before Congress and explain why he is interjecting himself into this process.

Trump should fire the bastard immediately if he refuses to cooperate with Congress, for subordination and Obstruction.

279 prosecuters to dig up dirt on Trump’s nominee?
Outrageous and totally out of the scope of what Rosenstein is legally able to do

He needs to be reined in now!

Rosenstein appears pretty nervous the past weeks.

Somebody ought to sneak up on him and yell:

"Boo .... Uranium One!"

>>Maybe the goal is to taint him with an accusation of misconduct that cannot ever be proven.

Of course that’s the goal! It will be the “pubic hair placed on the Coke can” attack. Didn’t work then, but would create an army of MeToo banshees today.
