Mueller asks court for 100 more blank subpoenas ahead of Manafort trial
The Hill ^ | 07/11/18 | Max Greenwood

Posted on 07/11/2018 4:35:33 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

Special counsel Robert Mueller is asking a federal court in Virginia for 100 blank subpoenas in the case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

The request was made in a filing on Wednesday. The subpoenas would require their recipients to testify in the U.S. District Court in Alexandria on July 25, when Manafort's trial in Virginia is set to begin.

No further information was provided in the filing, and a spokesman for the special counsel did not immediately respond to The Hill's request for comment.

The request comes roughly a month after Mueller filed a request for 150 blank subpoenas.

Manafort is facing numerous charges, including tax evasion, bank fraud and failing to report foreign bank accounts. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has sought to delay the trial and move the venue to Roanoke from Alexandria.

Manafort has been held in the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Va., since last month, when a federal judge in Washington, where he is facing separate charges, revoked his bail in response to new charges that the former Trump campaign chair sought to sway the testimony of two witnesses in his trial.

Mueller's team is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as any other alleged crimes that may arise during the course of the probe.

ok, I’m ignorant here. I thought subpoenas needed court approval, although that wasn’t hard to get. But, blanks? How does this work?

This means he has less than nothing. He’s just wants to drag it out as long as possible by bringing in witnesses that have nothing relevant to say.

If he only requested one subpoena I’d be worried.

250 now.

This does not pass the smell test.

You type and file a subpoena. Don’t think you ‘request’ one.

Now perhaps you can file a subpoena and ‘hide the name’ of who was subpoenaed.

But requesting blanks ? Don’t think so.

Can people blow these subpoenas off like Lisa Page and other federal law breakers do?

What, I thought he would go for 5000 more Subpoenas. He'll get Trump because Trump is incapable of fighting.

You can’t run a witch hunt without the ability to issue your own orders.

Mueller is going to keep going till he ruins enough lives that he has to be stopped by the President.

This stinks of a psychological mind trick from a prosecutor who knows he has nothing.

Nope. Rule of law is for little people only.

I think Mueller has gone crazier and is wild eyed and drooling now.

Eliot Ness would wake up a judge to sign one to get a bad guy busted and supply some evidence later.

Maybe all the leftist judges hate Trump so badly they will do anything Mueller wants, sort of like a blank contract and a blank check for his fee to go along with a blank subpoena. But 1,000 times? Loony Tunes.

Where are the grownups? When is someone going to step up and say enough is enough? In the past newspapers like the Washington Post and New York Times would have spoken up. There would be a bipartisan call for this tomfoolery to end.

Since when does any white collar alleged crime committed by a private citizen require 200 plus subpoenas? No one is in control. There is no mechanism in place to keep this from escalating endlessly. A real Attorney General would have quenched this months ago.
