Are you thinking or Mary McCarthy's famous characterization of Lillian Hellman?

Miss McCarthy appeared to tout her most recent unsuccessful novel," when McCarthy famously said of Hellman: "Every word she writes is a lie—including 'and' and 'the.' "

Lillian Hellman (another rich Communist) responded with a $2.25 million lawsuit against McCarthy, which really had her rattled; she didn't have the money to pay if she lost.

The Big Guy upstairs intervened however, and Lillian Hellman was unable to press her case forward due to being dead, thereby causing Mary McCarthy to breathe easy.
