Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “The Daily Briefing,” Sen Marco Rubio (R-FL) said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was “still a good idea,” but it has to be “modernized.”

When asked about President Donald Trump’s criticism of the alliance, Rubio said, “First of all, NATO is still a good idea. It has to be modernized, so it has a new purpose and a new meaning in the 21st century. I continue to believe and support NATO.”

but in my opinion not able to engage and then occupy territory.

They've got millions of Muslim fifth columnists spread all over Western Europe.

If Europe wants some sort of self-defense pact, then they should set up one. It just shouldn’t involve the United States.

Draw up something with the former eastern block nations to protect them from:
1. The EU.
2. The Russians
& 3. The Muslims.

I think their interest coincides with ours at this juncture.

I don’t feel comfortable with advising any country that they must increase their defense spending. Who exactly is the threat? But I DO agree with Trump that given the premise that NATO is neccessary and good (a premise I utterly reject) then the members should pony up more and be more responsible for their own protection. But overall I see the US and other governments as basically criminal money-laundering enterprises and arms contracts are a vital cog in that machine. As a youth I was quite the hawk — more was always better. But now I see the bulk of defense spending as the means by which politicians get and stay elected (among many such means).

Have we already forgotten who fought with us in Gulf War I and II, Iran, Syria and against ISIS?
The main reason Russia has not stepped into western Europe is NATO.
The deterrent worked, it does not prove it was never needed.
There are other threats besides Russia, several Middle East countries shake their sabers at the slightest sign of western weakness.
Considering UN is too weak and highly unreliable, we need NATO for a while longer.

THAT is indeed a threat. A REAL threat. But certainly not one that NATO could engage.

The threat in the cold war was the Soviet bloc.

The threat must be re-defined. An infiltrating invasion force that multiplies many times faster than the usual population. The infiltrator is intent on taking over and instituting a new law. All people must either submit to it, convert to it or get their necks cut.

Weapons and tactics do not involve naval fleets or armored divisions, but street to street, door to door, with many IED’s.

Last time I looked...the Germans finance the Russian military by buying their gas and oil. If that’s the deal...why should we stand in the middle of some ‘friendship’?

Rubio is a RINO of he first degree with grande illusions of grandeur. I regret immensely my vote for him as the lesser of two evils. Hopefully a true patriot will stand against him next time around. He hates Trump and shows it at every opportunity.

Draw up something with the former eastern block nations to protect them from:
1. The EU.

All the eastern block nations are already part of the EU.

2. The Russians

Let them protect themselves. I thought that the Presidents primary beef is we're spending too much to defend Europe.

& 3. The Muslims.

If they can't do that on their own then we can't do it for them.

There is no Warsaw pact

It was always the USSR / Russia that was the menace, with their massive ground forces and desire for Western Europe ... in that respect, nothing has changed.

So NATO is still needed, Russia can't be trusted. And Trump and his advisors realize this.

But NATO also has to get rid of undemocratic, duplicitous "allies" like Turkey - doesn't matter how strategically-placed they are.

When I saw this, I thought for sure that little Marco would unload on President Trump. He did not and backed him in his own way.

We are there in least in part to prevent Germany from getting access to another world class military.

I don’t want an idiot like Merkel, or the E. U. to have a military to complicate global dynamics.

All you have to do is watch those idiots, and you’ll quickly realize how easily it would be for them to turn on us militarily.

We went to war in Europe the last time after about 20 years. It’s been about 75 since then, with no major flare up. It’s well worth the cost.

If we wind up in another Middle East or Asian war, where should we move the hospitals in the European theatre to? NATO serves a purpose. It saves the lives of our military on the first leg of returning from battle. Without those hospitals, how many more deaths would there have been?
