Macron Denies Trump Claim That NATO Allies Agreed to Increase Spending Beyond Goals

President Donald Trump on Thursday said NATO allies agreed to “substantially up their commitment” to the alliance after he told leaders he was “extremely unhappy.”

“Tremendous progress has been made. Everyone’s agreed to substantially up their commitment. They’re going to up it at levels that they’ve never thought of before,” Trump said at his press conference in Brussels.

“Commitments were made,” he said. “The commitment was at 2 percent, ultimately that’ll be going up quite a bit higher than that.”

French President Emmanuel Macron denied that any NATO members had agreed to boost contributions beyond 2 percent GDP.

“There is a communique that was published yesterday. It’s very detailed,” Macron said, per the Associated Press. “It confirms the goal of 2 percent by 2024. That’s all.”

Macron also denied reports that Trump had threatened to withdraw from the NATO alliance.

Macron lives in a palace; it’s gone to his head.

I thought France resigned from NATO when Degaul was president.

France is not IIRC a “formal” member of NATO, so Macron is talking out of his backside.

Trump said there was a commitment at 2%
Macron said there was a commitment at 2%

So far, they are saying the same thing.

Then, after the 2% commitment comment, Trump added that “ultimately it would be going up higher”. As this comment follows his remark that there was a commitment at 2%, the only inference can then be that he’s saying there is no commitment for it to go higher, but it is his belief that it will.

Macron says there is only a commitment for 2% and nothing beyond that. This in no way contradicts anything that Trump said, as Trump never said there was any COMMITMENT to go beyond 2%. The only difference is that Macron has not made any comment on Trump’s belief that at some future point the other NATO countries will start contributing more than 2%.

#FakeNews strikes again.

Agreed to Increase Spending Beyond Goals

President Trump never said it was "beyond goals".

In Spanish you translate Marcon to Maricon, which is Spanish for FAGGOT!

1) Derogatory term; crude word for a gay man used by straight men and women to insult gay men or to question the masculinity of straight men. Comparable to faggot. 2) A crude word for transvestites, comparable to tranny but more rude.

OUTRAGEOUS!

We, NOT THE US GOVT, the taxpayers are subsidizing Europe’s socialism and liberal spending policies by paying the largest part of the bills for NATO.

ENOUGH!
Let the US CUT its funding until 2024. If NATO is so precious the European members will find a way to pay the bills.

BTW, this is a stone cold WINNER of an issue everywhere except in DC.

“The German navy is mostly in port for repairs. “

And a lot of their military aircraft can’t fly either.

GD back stabbing MOFO FROG.

When the hell we gonna learn? Pull out of it and let the ones who WANT to work with us do so. Let the back stabbing SOB’s go their own way.

Pull the big military bases the hell out of Germany and move them to the old east Prussian area if Poland wants to let us..and it seems that they do. Same with the other trilateral eastern country alliance. Drive a wedge between the western countries and the eastern countries.

I think Europe has decided since the USA saved their bacon twice in WWI and WWII we will step up and do it again if Russia invades. They are too stupid to realize most of Europe has already lost to the Muslim invasion.

These self-adoring, “sophisticated” beyond us, always-preening losers need to stand on their own two feet. Pull out of nato. It is beyond useless and tiresome. The defense ministers of all these loser countries are socialist women with no military experience. Sheesh!

“Commitments were made,” he said. “The commitment was at 2 percent, ultimately that’ll be going up quite a bit higher than that.”

So Trump clearly says that the commitments were for 2%. The “ultimately” part is obviously Trump’s aspiration BEYOND the commitment. Nowhere does Trump say anyone committed to amounts over 2%.

Maybe Macron has limited English skills, but for the English-speaking media, to report that Trump is wrong to say the commitment was for 2% because the documents show the commitment was for 2% is ludicrous. Are these people drooling morons or deliberate news fakers? Both?

“It confirms the goal of 2 percent by 2024. That’s all.”

You don’t have a goal. 2% is your commitment.

If Russia is still a real threat to the U.S., then wouldn’t having a buffer of Eastern and Western Europe still be to our advantage?

I agree that Western Europe is an economic and “diversity” disaster - they have always created their own problems, making them worse than they would have been had they gotten their heads out of their keisters - but they don’t, then always expect us to foot the bill for NATO and the UN and all those other waste of space institutions - but, again, is Russia still a real threat?

If they are, again, is abandoning Western Europe a strategic blunder or not?

You know what, President Trump? Just pull out of NATO all together: it’s an obsolete relic of WWII and the Cold War, both of which we won and which are way in the past.

If the EU is really worried about the Russkies, then they should quit buying oil and gas from them and fill in the holes left by the U.S. pull-out ... Iersonally, I’m sick of these lying, backstabbing, sanctimonious Euro assholes who’ve already Muslimized themselves to the point of no return, anyway ...
