The Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders approved a new contract with federal officials to continue housing immigrant detainees at the county jail in Kearny.
Thursday afternoon's vote was met with anger by a handful of people, who compared the detention of undocumented immigrants to concentration camps and modern-day slavery. Tensions grew among freeholders, who had decided to table the vote during Tuesday's caucus meeting but added the item back onto the agenda after Thursday's meeting began.
Under the new contract, the county will be paid $120 per day by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for each immigrant detainee housed at the facility, a $10 increase from the terms of the contract that expired in January.

Were any of the protesters citizens?
Or were they just disgruntled fraudulently documented foreigners?
Generic bologna on day old bread, store brand potato chips and Kool-Ade. Lots of money for the county.
And an apple a day.
I just got out of a nursing home in April. I can’t imagine the type of doctors and nurses they’d have in a jail.
Hope you’re feeling better.
I meant that literally - a guy I know just got out of stir (parole violation from a stupid theft as a youth). He told us you get an apple every day.
A ping to you, sir.
Every household in America has ‘day old bread’.
Commercial bread usually isn’t baked on Sunday or Wednesday. There cannot be more than a handful of households in the USA that buy fresh bread every day......
Thank you! It is only logical to house them here; it is Ground Zero for the invasion.
