This seems to be a staged/choreographed counter action intended to instill relevance back into the self destructing investigation Mueller has been leading the past year, or so.
A nudge back onto the track of relevance if you will as the elections are only months away, and now is not the time for Russian irrelevance. Heaven forbid.
Russia will probably double down, make the officers available and get them lawyers who will say to Mueller infront of a judge “prove it and show us what you got and we want a speedy trial now under the constitution”. Won’t that just boggle Mueller’s mind. (since the Russians previously indicted have already given Mueller a huge head-ache by demanding the same thing, I suspect this new group will follow the same play book!)
