It’s not the best. Cakir, the Trukish ref screwed up the Croatia-England semi-final, and the best referee in a generation, Kuipers is not the referee in the Final. It could be that Croatia did not want a ref from a country so close to France. That’s understandable.
If England had beaten Croatia, Kuipers would have been selected to ref the Final.
I wasn’t alive during Soviet times but have been taught by people who did make frequent trips during the era and Russian hospitality did not go anywhere. Friendly relationships existed between Russians and foreigners during that era as well and while travel remain limited, the Soviet Union hosted people from countries all over. (People from Africa who went to study engineering for example, among a host of others...)
What I’m trying to say is, while the BBC and US Media may FAIL on all accounts with regard to covering just about ANYTHING (not just Russia) — one can love Russia and its culture yet have a strong anti-Putin, anti-Kremlin worldview plus some criticisms about tendencies unique to the population. It’s perfectly valid. Doesn’t make one ignorant or a hater...Quite the contrary. It’s out of love that some of the most devoted writers and thinkers on Russia address these issues at all.

Same reaction. Based on Sochi, I expected a disaster. Been a good cup. Brazil & Germany knocked out early, England going to the semis, an underdog in the Final. Better than usual.

Very glad American national soccer team failed to be qualified for Russia world cup.

He has several photos of all of them together. They plan to keep in touch on social media. I have a feeling he’ll visit again. When he was in high school, I remember him saying he’d like to visit Russia someday, so the World Cup was the perfect opportunity.
With common final scores being 1-0, it’s hardly exciting.
Poland for me was disappointing I was really surprised for the game against Colombia, it was at least 70% Colombia fans. I wondered going in how many people would make the trip.

I agree with you. The homosexual rainbow uniforms forced on all the players is beyond disgusting. The USA soccer team would indeed have tried to provoke Russia with some type of gay message. They would have sent gay propaganda to children. It’s what they do.

I agree! I would have rather seen Belgium than Croatia, but Croatia is a fine team. And I’ll take anybody over England. I don’t much care at this point who wins, as long as ENGLAND LOSES! Only England could outdo Neymar for bad sportsmanship.
