Peter Strzok exhibited an astonishing lack of self-awareness
The Hill ^ | July 13, 2018 | JAMES GAGLIANO

For ten hours Thursday, FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok gave riveting, compelling and, at times, farcical testimony before the House Judiciary and Oversight committees. ...(snipped for excerpt size)

The lowlights included Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). In a contentious back-and-forth with Strzok, whose well-publicized affair with a colleague resulted in the discovery of damning politically charged text messages, Gohmert questioned Strzok’s fidelity, blasted his “smirk” and condemned his conduct as a “disgrace.”

Gohmert, “How many times did you look so innocent into your wife’s eyes and lie to her?”Not to be outdone were Strzok’s “defense attorneys” — the committees’ Democrats. As if saying “Hold my beer,” here was Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) who lavishly praised the witness before adding this comical, but, for military veterans, highly insulting — pièce de résistance, “If I could give you a Purple Heart, I would.”

The Purple Heart, established in 1782, is America’s oldest military decoration. George Washington awarded the first one. One earns it by being wounded in combat.

Yet, for all the partisan grandstanding, it was Strzok, whose voice most of America had never heard, who delivered the most noteworthy performance.

From his opening statement, a copy of which the Associated Press obtained a day prior, Strzok came out swinging. He fidgeted, appeared uncomfortable, but there was perceptible defiance in his voice as he plodded through his opening remarks.

Parroting Democratic talking points, he dismissed the proceedings as “just another notch in Putin’s belt” — because, as you know, congressional oversight of the FBI is such a “victory” for the Kremlin.

His testimony devolved into a laughable defense of the indefensible. His perpetually smug countenance disappeared, at times, when GOP lawmakers questioned the blatant political bias of his text-message exchanges with former FBI attorney Lisa Page.

Trey should have READ OUT LOUD Strzok’s comments about Trump and Trump supporters and replaced the words - - Trump with “Martin Luther King jr... and ‘trump supporters or base with ‘black community’.

That would have to be the most counterproductive idea of the year.

Unless you have some secret agenda we don't know about.

Strzok is either on meds, drugs or booze. The man is as unstable as a person can be. His facial and body language are perverse at best, and present a man is unbalanced, from head to toe!!!

It's a good article and the writer is correct in saying the above.

Strzok was pathetic yesterday in the hearing but he comes by it honestly because he's a pathetic person in life.

I think there’s a better way Gohmert could have done that.

Sztrok can’t deny his own massive bias but claims that his bias did not affect his work...that he’s too much of a consummate professional and that he follows the rules. OK. Did you Mr. Sztrok have an affair with Agent Page? Let’s read the FBI rules on affairs between agents (which requires disclosure - which he did not make).

“So Mr. Sztrok, it turns out you don’t follow FBI rules when it suits you. If the FBI can’t trust you...if indeed your own wife can’t trust you how can the American people and more importantly how can a jury trust you when you say your actions were not influenced by your obvious bias?”

Peter Strzok is a protagonist in a Greek tragedy.

More like a Greek farce...given his smug demeanor.

Agreed, he’s a 22 year veteran of the FBI and had many supervisors throughout that time.

I’d think at least some of them knew or at least suspected this guy is a psycho.
