When asked which world leader was the greater threat to world security, 64 percent of respondents chose US President Donald Trump over his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. Thats according to a YouGov poll published on the eve of Trumps meeting with Putin in Helsinki.
And the German antipathy toward Trump doesnt end there: 56 percent of respondents thought that Putin was more competent than Trump, with only 5 percent preferring the latter on that score. Thirty-six percent of Germans find Putin more likable than Trump, while 6 percent say the opposite although most respondents refused to indicate a preference on that question.
And, perhaps most surprisingly, 44 percent said Putin was more powerful than Trump, compared with only 29 percent who thought the US president has more power. [ ]
On the one hand, Germans fear that Trumps and Putins alpha male tendencies could collide, ratcheting up tensions between the worlds two greatest military powers. On the other, theyre perhaps even more afraid that Trump and Putin might be too much on the same page.
The worlds two most powerful men have one thing in common, Bilds lead story on Sunday reads. They want to weaken Europe.
Thats a widespread view around Germany, where many people fear that Trumps occasional hostility to NATO, for instance, plays into Putins strategic aim of dividing the West and increasing Russias influence in the world.

Well they should. President Trump is telling Europe that we are no longer Uncle Sap with who give them carte blanche to our wallets
We fear them more, too
After all, they did start two World Wars
Merkel keeps trying to establish a World Government. The EU was the start. All these little sides....Iran, Climate Change, unfair trade laws....were to create a super power....And Germany wants it to be THEIR World Government.
Their problem is not Trump. It’s immigration.
They should look to Trump as an inspiration, as the Brexit people do.
Because the Germans have such a great history of warning the world about politicians who represent a grave threat to humanity.
CNN international has met their objectives.
So, it gets a little chilly in Germany in the winter. I wonder how they would feel if Russia just shut down the pipeline unless the Germans agree to pay double or triple?
Sure, but dropping tariffs and being more accepting of US energy sources is just out of the question for them, isn’t it.
I suspect everyone in Germany that YouGov refused to poll feels exactly that way.
Oh wow. Germany has yet found an excuse to back the Nazi National Bolshevick Party against a free country
Not surprised by German leftists there
Alas Germany is not anything like what it used to be a will continue to be so until the Jihad is successful then, well German Muslim warriors may indeed be a troubling by product both for us and the Muzzy world also.
Good.
It’s good to be feared.
In case you didn’t notice, the German leaders do not fear the Mahometans, not even the ones speaking up against them. So that is part of a plot. And they’ve always ruled the EU by crisis.
What a crock of it! Germans won’t even pay their share of NATO expenses. They promised 2% but never come up with much over 1%. Their army is worthless as it is forbidden to be in combat zones. Maybe they are good for directing traffic in Berlin, but not much else. We have protected them all these years at our expense, rebuilt their country and their economy and they are just waiting to stab us in the back. I hope Trump bankrupts the European Union. Individual countries should regain their sovereignty instead of being ruled by a bunch of UNELECTED bureaucrats.
Notice how the Germans take it upon themselves to declare all of Europe theirs. They say Trump wants to weaken Europe, uh excuse me, no. Trump wants to reign in Germany from sucking on the US public teat.
PS to Germans. Europe is not all yours. Stay in your own confined territory.
Trump does need to talk more to the individual nations, certainly. Especially needs to focus on the “core” of the EU and get his message closer to the people and away from the elite politicians.
