Correct me if I’m wrong but the typical BART riders are all low-income types...right? I’ve seen videos where it just seems apparent. This is not like the London or Paris Metro system.

Not really correct. Most BART riders are normal people with jobs going to work, normal people going shopping or to events, tourists coming from or going to the airport, etc. There is also a smaller swath of low-income types who cause a great deal of trouble way out of proportion to their numbers. These troublemakers are mostly black and not from San Francisco.

smoking methamphetamine aboard trains

I'm surprised this made the news. Back when I was riding NYC subways, you occasionally saw someone who was high or passed out or acting strange. Unless they got violent, everyone ignored them. It wasn't that big of a deal.

That is incorrect! The BART system brings people from as far away as Pleasanton and Antioch to Oakland and San Francisco. Unfortunately the trains have to pass through $hit neighborhoods where the “undesirable” riders get on. Apart from limited bus service and private automobiles, it’s really the only way for East Bay commuters to get into SF.
Blacks have assaulted white riders by getting on at one of the “ghetto stops.”

Our Assemblywoman recently sent out a questionnaire asking those of us who live in the San Ramon Valley if we wanted a BART “extension?” My answer: Why would we want to provide a vehicle of convenience for criminals to take into our communities to commit burglaries and other property crimes during the day while we are all at work?

Yes, my son lives in Castro Valley and works for a company that is currently located in the Potrero Hill area. He takes BART to 16th & Mission and “skateboards” to the office. Like a lot of areas of SF, Potrero Hill has been reborn. Thirty years ago I worked down on Jerrold Ave and Potrero Hill was a ghetto.
