Why is he still getting a paycheck from the American taxpayer? So when he testifies before Congress, he can refuse to answer questions on "advice of FBI council. if he were fired, he could not claim that.

Looks like Page’s attorney was angling for an immunity agreement for Page and that may be what the testimony games were about.
Looks like Page may have figured out she was being set up for taking the fall or at the very least she was going to see some jail time.
