Mueller’s Politicized Indictment of Twelve Russian Intelligence Officers
National Review ^ | 16 July 2018 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 07/16/2018 10:45:09 AM PDT by Meet the New Boss

So, is Russia now presumed innocent of hacking the 2016 election?

If not, it is difficult to understand any proper purpose served by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment of twelve military officers in the Kremlin’s intelligence services...

Make no mistake: This is nakedly politicized law enforcement. There is absolutely no chance any of the Russian officials charged will ever see the inside of an American courtroom. The indictment is a strictly political document by which the special counsel seeks to justify the existence of his superfluous investigation.

snip

Lacking the requisite basis to conduct a criminal investigation, the Justice Department used its counterintelligence mission as a pretext for appointing a special counsel. This was grossly improper: (1) Counterintelligence work, which is geared at thwarting the operations of hostile foreign powers, is not the prosecutor work of building criminal cases; (2) not surprisingly, then, there is no authority in the regulations to assign a special counsel to a counterintelligence investigation; and (3) because counterintelligence authorities do not afford Americans the due-process protections required in criminal investigations, the Justice Department is not permitted to use counterintelligence as a pretext for conducting what is actually an effort to build a criminal prosecution.

snip

The only point of the new indictment is to justify Rosenstein’s decision and Mueller’s existence...

To be clear, we did need an FBI counterintelligence investigation of Russia’s espionage operation against the 2016 election, and we already had a quite aggressive one before Mueller came on the scene. But we would have needed a special-counsel investigation only if there had been a concrete factual basis to believe the Trump campaign conspired in Russia’s espionage operation against the 2016 election.

There never was.

“Trump is afraid to do it.”

Why, do you believe that he is afraid to do it? Rosenstein’s act certainly gives grounds to do it. Trump is a pretty bold guy, just look at his business history. So if he does not fire Rosenstein I wonder what is preventing him from doing so.

“Trump is afraid to do it.”

No, Trump doesn’t WANT to do it.

The Mueller witch hunt, along with the appearance of a deep state controlled AG and DOJ, is the gift that keeps giving.

Trump is as happy as a clam. First off, he gets innocent victim status for being the subject of what the public overwhelmingly views as a political witch hunt. Second, the a Democrats are cast as the bad guys - the witch hunters - history shows the party of the witch hunter gets clobbered in the voting booth. Third, the Democrats think Trump is wounded - they think there’s blood in the water, so they are acting like sharks - (emboldened, as you put it) so they are over confident, arrogant, error prone and vicious, often picking indefensible positions just to be the opposite of Trump. All in all not a “look” voters find attractive. Fourth, the Democrats committed all kinds of crimes, so wherever Mueller turns he’s going to be unwittingly tripping over evidence that hurts Obama Democrats - the longer the Mueller investigation drags on, the longer the Democrats are stuck running around in a mine field, at risk for blowing themselves up.

In short, Trump would be crazy to end the Mueller investigation - it’s the political gift that keeps on giving. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out the whole thing was his idea - he’s certainly not lifting a finger to stop it.

The first thing that Trump should do when returning to America is fire Rosenstein for this act.

No. Tell Sessions to fire his deputy himself. If he won't, fire the feckless coward, THEN fire Rosenstein.

“The only point of the new indictment is to justify Rosenstein’s decision and Mueller’s existence...”

Not quite. It also sabotaged Trump’s meeting with Putin (anyway they can undermine Trump fits the agenda). But second and more importantly, it allows Mueller to avoid ever issuing a comprehensive report which would exonerate Trump. All evidence can be held back from Congress and the public because it’s part of an “ongoing case”-—and always will be.

Remember, an indictment is only an accusation, not a conviction. Now he must get a conviction and he won’t.

I hope that you are right, and most of your analysis I find to be well within the bounds of reason. We will find out if the effect of the ongoing witch hunt is going to hurt the ‘Rats in Nov. I pray to God that every Trump voter from 2016 is scared enough to get off his/her duff and get to the polls...and that there are a few million additional fence-sitters who grow disgusted by the tactics of the Cultural Marxist Swine and decide to send them a message ...

Yes, I think the midterm elections will favor Trump as long as he stays positive. The America First principle is a winner.

I would hate to see Trump get involved with firing Rosenstien or Mueller, or throwing Obama era officials in jail. I think he’s wise to stay above all that.

Not many of us seriously entertain that idea. I'm pretty well convinced SC is a creature of Trump, or at least "not a surprise to Trump" when appointed.

So previously we had “17 agencies agree Russia interfered in the US election” which we now know was pure opinion based on the piss document from Steele. So does the DOJ have actual EVIDENCE that the Russian military really DID break into Hillary’s server? I mean they wouldn’t craft an indictment without it, right?

It’s a bit early, but we can remember and smile.

On the first day of meltdown, the media gave to us, a bunch of weeping snowflakes.
On the second day of meltdown, the media gave to us, two fake news stories and a bunch of weeping snowflakes.
Altogether now! (leftards like to say that while singing; learn from them)
On the third day of meltdown...

Now news sources are saying that Deputy AG Rosenstien briefed President Trump about the forthcoming indictments earlier this month and that the WH instructed the Justice Dept. not to hold off on announcing the indictments. This is being reported by CNN and Bloomberg News.
