Trump faces bipartisan criticism over press conference with Putin

President Trump faced harsh bipartisan criticism back home for his Helsinki press conference with Vladimir Putin on Monday, as lawmakers claimed the U.S. president missed a chance to "stand up" to the Russian president on election meddling.

The U.S. president, for his part, called the summit with Putin "deeply productive." After Democrats for days called on him to nix the meeting in the wake of indictments against Russian officers for U.S. campaign hacking, Trump said he would "not make decisions on foreign policy in a futile effort to appease partisan critics."

He cited progress on a range of issues, and said it would be a "good thing" to get along with Russia.

However, the president angered members of both parties by saying both countries share blame for damaged relations and by not firmly standing by U.S. intelligence assessments that Russia meddled in the 2016 elections.

Trump said he has great confidence in the intelligence community, but Putin gave a "strong and powerful" denial. He said he doesn't "see any reason why" Russia would be behind election meddling.

"There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world," House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., countered.

Others were less reserved in their response.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who has been out of Washington for months battling brain cancer, issued a blistering statement calling the performance “disgraceful.”

“President Trump proved not only unable, but unwilling to stand up to Putin. He and Putin seemed to be speaking from the same script as the president made a conscious choice to defend a tyrant against the fair questions of a free press, and to grant Putin an uncontested platform to spew propaganda and lies to the world,” McCain said

Just another way of saying that the Hate America Deep State crosses the aisle.

The aisle is a bleeping joke.

The real aisle is between SELFISH INTERESTS and REPRESENTING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IN THEIR CONGRESS. What are there, 4 guys on the latter side?

MSN say he trusts Putin to be truthful more than his own intel services. And in this case so do I. Our own intel services are, after all, part of the “deep state”.

I’m convinced that he did not order any Russian to mess with us, but I’m also certain he would not interfere with the Russians who did so.

Whatever happened to the " An indictment is merely a charge and we should wait for due process before deciding on the guilt or innocence.

More than likely the 13 indictments of the Russians for interfering in our election are justified, but with the doubt cast on the FBI, Cia,and Mueller investigation and other groups why should it be taken as Gospel. - Tom

I don’t believe Russia wants to run the United States. If they couldn’t run Afghanistan, they’d really get disgusted with the hard ass Americans we’d be if we were prisoners. However, the globalist oligarchy DOES ACTUALLY WANT TO OWN US and they are kind of halfway there. So I do fear them more than Russia.

Like Obama brazenly interfered in the Israeli elections to try and get Prime Minister Nyatanyahu defeated only to fail miserably.
Where was Ryan when all this was happening?

Yes. He should go on a world diplomatic tour, and just punch everyone he meets in the throat, including Merkel, May, the Queen of England and little Kim. No reason. Just why bother being nice.

$hitstain McCain had to come out of his crypt and mouth off.

If that SOB had been elected in 2008, he would have started World War III, because he is insane.

“Bipartisan” has, for decades, actually meant: Uniparty Deep State Globalist Warmongering Traitors to the USA.

Most of us FReepers know that. Somehow we need to educate the rest of the world on that.
