The Anti-Trump Hysteria Isn’t Helping
The Atlantic ^ | July 17, 2018 | Danielle Pletka, senior vice president the American Enterprise Institute

Posted on 07/17/2018 3:13:52 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

President Donald Trump’s press conference with Russia’s Vladimir Putin was a debacle. The president went from an anodyne prepared statement to a question-and-answer session that ping-ponged between stunning and appalling (with a bit of emetic thrown in for good measure). Suffice it to say, it was a new low from a chief executive who is redefining the term.

But the reaction on Twitter from the foreign-policy establishment was almost as untethered as Trump himself. John Brennan, who served as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency under Obama, tweeted:

Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of “high crimes & misdemeanors.” It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???

The former presidential candidate Evan McMullin piled on:

Trump’s behavior this week has made his betrayal of American interests clear. It has also made clear the betrayal of House Republicans who have relentlessly undermined the FBI and the Special Counsel as they’ve heroically worked to protect the nation. Time for a change.

There’s plenty to say about Trump’s Helsinki performance, none of it good. The man was made a cat’s paw by Putin, and that’s the least of it. Working together in Syria? Moral equivalence between Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and Putin? It was dreadful, even disgraceful—but it wasn’t treason. And the immediate reaction from many establishment figures was too much. But why?

In 2016, Republicans, who had been writhing in Ben Rhodes–induced agonies of irritation over the latter Obama years, were desperate to win back the White House. But for many GOPers waiting in the wings in D.C., Donald Trump was their last choice....

They keep driving more people to support Trump and they haven’t got a clue.

It was terrific way to get those opposed to MAGA to expose themselves, as if most of us did not already know who they were.

Perhaps Twitter has dragged us all away from the considered responses this presidency requires. Perhaps Trump is driving us all mad. But it’s time to get a grip

You go first, Danielle. Get a grip.

The Atlantic Magazine was, once upon a time, worth looking at....far leftist for sure (!) with a lot of drivel. But,...an occasionally well-written article (such as James Fellows is capable of submitting).

I watched the broadcast. PDJT did nothing he needed to apologize for. We do not know the results of his summit with Putin, but logically Russia should be our ally in the war to defend civilization against the barbaric IslamoNazi invasion (which impacts Russia even more than USA). Whether Trump can work things out? I do not know. There are several outstanding complications, but at least we know he made an effort... and it could be very much to our benefit if he can achieve even half of this agenda.

The press and leftist politicos including McShame and Ryan along with Pelousy and HilLIARy... have been making such gigantic fools of themselves with their incessant lies, fabrications, distortions, and personal attacks

they are clearly insane. Someone (other than those in government right now) should sign commitment papers on them so they can be picked up for mental observation by competent authorities. Who knows, maybe (tho it appears very unlikely) they are curable, can be helped to some measure or degree of sanity?

There is all sorts of wrong in this article. Slanted to the extreme. Yet one word accentuates just how false any of the assessments on President Trump are—calling him lazy. lol. There is not one lazy bone in this man’s body. If Trump is lazy then Obama was beyond dead. Love him or hate him there is nothing lazy about Trump. That one word right there tells me this is yet another FAKE NEWS perspective.

Please. Rush Limbaugh specifically asked us not to spread this around.

Brennan proved for the umpteenth time that he doesn't give a crap about American interests, the intelligence community, the law, the facts or anything other than being a political hack out to get Trump.

No matter how many people from their own side tell them they are playing into Trump's hand, they won't/can't stop.

Is it just me? I thought Trump was great. I loved the way he brought it out about the DNC server. It makes sense to get along with Russia. I am not thrilled with Trump walking back what he said.

Every president including FDR and Truman then JFK and on, have met with Russian leaders some even with Chinese leaders. Were they called Traitors?

This canned hysteria is orchestrated as much as created to try to stall President Trumps SCOTUS pick's appointment. It is they syntho-crisis of the week.

The left is melting down because President Trump, in meeting with Putin has taken away that issue (non issue) from them to try to attack him with. They are a depraved people.
