“If it was seismic activity beneath Grand Teton which caused the fissure...”

That would already have been known. I’m guessing it is a rock slab that has broken off of an existing cliff and has the risk of cascading broken rocks down. They’ll send ugys up on ropes with bars and maybe jackhammers to bring it down in a controlled manner.

I think this is the same talus field my kids and I climbed on years ago (before they put up the “no trespassing” signs). I still am amazed when I think of how my three and six year olds scrambled around on those boulders. Yeah - I suppose one of the boulders might have shifted and squished them - but they didn’t.

The continued British freakout over Yellowstone is comical. This is a crack, dozens of miles away. By all accounts, Yellowstone is no way even remotely ready to erupt.

two-thirds of the USA would immediately be made uninhabitable.

(Excerpt)

Pretty sure 2/3rds of the lands coming uninhabitable would kill more than a few million.

I bet if Yellowstone ever detonates in a cataclysmic explosion they’ll be able to hear it from Denver.

If the Wyoming volcano were to erupt an estimated 87,000 people would be killed immediately and two-thirds of the USA would immediately be made uninhabitable.

With all of the disaster movies as of late from Hollywood, I truly believe sone people are wishing this to happen to get their jollies...

Don’t we have actual Scientists on the payroll who can predict the fissure/volcano future within 1% of point?

I tell ya..we are screwed. Bend over and kiss yer ass goodbye.

Here is how Yellowstone will go. First a vent will open, how big? They dont know, but they guess the size of a VEI 4 or 5. Then, another opens, and another, and another. At that time the caldera wont be able to support the mass on top of it since enough material will have been blown out and the caldera collapses. At that time, it is a super eruption and we had all better have jelly in our pockets because we are all toast.

Will it happen? Yup, no doubt. When? Nobody knows. Yellowstone has had MANY smaller eruptions in the past as well-they dont even have a clue how large the next one will be.

Like most, I am sick and friggan tired of these freaks, like on youtube, saying its gonna blown soon. They had better hope like hell it doesnt blow because they will most likely die like he rest of us and what will all that harping got them.

The winter will last a decade if not more. Tambora was a vei 6 or 7 and that one really caused havoc across the globe.

Falls Area Emergency Closure

Closure updated July 10, 2018. Temporary closure remains in effect until rescinded. It is unknown how long the closure at Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point areas will be in place.

Closure and Public Use Limit

The following area is temporarily closed to public entry: The area around Hidden Falls, including the viewing area and trails in the immediate vicinity. The Inspiration Point area is also closed. Visitors are able to hike around Jenny Lake, up into Cascade Canyon, and along the cascade below Hidden Falls. The Jenny Lake Shuttle Boat is operational.

Authority
The Superintendent is closing the portion of the park to all public use. This closure is necessary for one or more of the following reasons:
Maintenance of public health and safety
Determination
The National Park Service has determined that the closure is necessary due to the recent expansion of cracks and fissures in a large rock buttress above the Hidden Falls viewing area.

Public Notice

Signs are posted at conspicuous locations in the affected area. The signed compendium amendment is available for review in the office of the superintendent. This notice will be removed from this webpage when the closure is no longer necessary and has been rescinded.

Not to worry. Over the last 2.1 million years, the Yellowstone super volcano has only erupted every 630,000 years or so.

Anyone know how long it’s been since the last one? About 630,000 years.

Sleep well.
