The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) has always been at the forefront of issues that are critical to the welfare of our state and our country. This year, NYSBA will return to an issue that continues to be a scourge of our society - the prevalence of gun violence and mass shootings in the United States.

So a bunch of tavern owners think they have an answer? Have another beer fellas and gals. ;-)
"In excess of 99.99%."
"They're obviously far too dangerous for the average American. Ban them."
Gun grabber "logic".
People who own or possess firearms are mentally unstable.
There you have the next track on gun control in America. It's Eric Holder's by the way. Steady, slow, consistent messaging in schools, media, grants, even healthcare providers.
“...the prevalence of gun violence and mass shootings in the United States.”
This statement discredits the entire article. It removes responsibility from the individual and places it on the gun. Bad gun...no cookie. We kind of know why that is, but it upsets people, so we just continue to get shot up, rather than hurt someone’s feelings or question the viability of their “culture”.
Ha! You got me! This is from the Onion, right?
The problem is not that complicated.
1. Inhibit the nexus between the violently deranged and weapons.
2. Harden the entry control points at kill zones that concentrate targets.
3. Gunshot detectors are readily available, proven to work and can be networked to identify a shooter location in seconds, anywhere. They could trigger: much faster responses, email alerts in that area, lockdowns, alarms, etc.
Stopping the deranged from killing is like fighting earthquakes. The best we can do is minimize the damage.

This year, NYSBA will return to an issue that continues to be a scourge of our society - the prevalence of gun violence and mass shootings in the United States.
lol ...
The newly formed Task Force on Mass Shootings and Assault Weapons will consider ...
1. the connection between mental health and mass shootings;
2. the relationship between domestic violence and mass shootings; and
3. government oversight of assault weapons and accessories, consistent with constitutional protection of a person's right to possess guns, to prevent the plague of mass shootings devastating our country.
Wanna bet the study will give lip service to 1 and 2, with a focus on 3.
The task force will make appropriate recommendations aimed at decreasing the occurrence of mass shootings in our country. In particular, it will explore ...
a. the potential effectiveness of enhanced waiting periods and enhanced background checks;
b. uniformity of rules regarding purchases in stores and at gun shows;
c. whether private sellers should be required to conduct background checks on the domestic violence registry; and
d. federal and state regulation of assault weapons and related accessories such as large ammunition magazines, "bump stocks" and other devices.
Like I said ...
Our country no longer locks mentally ill people up ... they drug them and set them free into society. THIS is the problem ...
Uh, yeah, "gun violence" doesn't really figure into mass stabbings or mass killings by driving vehicles into crowds, or terrorists crashing planes into buildings.
I assume the part about tavern owner was joke right?
That’s why we should continue to resist allowing “gun violence” to be treated as a “public health” issue. The left has a proven track record of politicizing the medical profession. Just look at what they’ve done with “transgenderism,” turning psychiatrists away from providing desperately-needed treatment for a horrible mental illness in order to further the left’s agenda of post-modern sexual politics and the creation of new victim constituencies.
Note that there that for a document (manifesto?) published by an association of lawyers, there is almost nothing in there about law.
Of course, the NYSBA gave us its view of the law in the report of its “Task Force on Gun Violence,” referenced in this article. I read about all of that report I could stand, and of course they get the history of the Second Amendment completely wrong and give a disingenuously-narrow interpretation of Heller in an attempt to give liberal judges a road map to ignore it.
Did I just miss these critical attributes?
A rather large portion of our population has had minor neuroses and domestic violence problems related to drug or alcohol problems. For some, those difficulties are only temporary preceding a return to lucidity.
We’re not going to “stop” violence or other human troubles. This world won’t be perfect in the Greco-Roman sense. Common sense dictates it. Considering the size of our population, we’re doing pretty good. Continuing towards implementing a police state is not a good solution and will lead to much more monstrous suffering.
By the way, various state bar associations were also in favor of feminist laws for implementing the divorce, cohabitation and fatherlessness paradigm that led to many of the mass murders resulting from spoiling children. Remember the warnings during the 1990s about super predators being reared by broken families and warped social interactions between parents (some family members spoiled by weakened authority within families). As we see, those warnings were correct.
The NYSBA has actually spent the last month recruiting volunteer attorneys to sue the USA to allow illegals to stay.
Someone should tell these folk, fat, dumb and communist is no way to go through life.
Why dont we go after privileges of the deranged first? You know, like drive a car or run for office as Obama did?
Taking guns away from them without due process is taking a right away akin to putting someone in prison.
