From a Darwinian perspective, the human mammalian brain is the only one that has the capacity for complex mysticism. It is expressed in many different ways. Without a capacity for mysticism, it is doubtful humans would have the capacity for creativity. Hence the theological thesis that humans are created in the image of God.
