A cardiologist who once treated former President George H.W. Bush was gunned down Friday morning while riding his bicycle through Houstons Texas Medical Center.
*snip*
Hausknecht was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Finner said he was hit at least once.
The area where the shooting took place is part of a 1,345-acre complex of hospitals and medical institutions, including the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and is teeming with traffic and pedestrians during the day.
Hausknecht was going to work at Houston Methodist Hospital when he was shot, the hospital's CEO said in an email to staff.
*smip*
Police are still trying to determine if the shooting was random or a targeted act.

“Doctor gets shot at a 1345 acre medical complex that contains hospitals. So they took him to another hospital?”
The article says “nearby hospital”. The Houston Medical Center is the largest medical center in America, with many hospitals and ERs. The specific hospital was not named but was certainly in this complex.
“A lot of the best hospitals are in really bad neighborhoods”
Houston has lots of areas that go from rich to poor and back again.
But pretty much all of the area surrounding the medical center is expensive property. You find some rough areas as you get closer to NRG Stadium, but I doubt the path the doctor took was related to him being near a bad neighborhood.
From a Houston Chronicle article
The doctor was traveling northbound on Main Street at the intersection with
Holcombe Boulevard when the gunman passed him, Houston police said. Two
blocks later, the gunman turned around on his mountain bike and fired at least
two shots at Hausknecht, who immediately went down, as the shooter kept
riding north.

"...why would anyone bicycle to work..."
BINGO!
Can’t have any truth coming out. And that stupor may have been long in the past, but something led to this current shooting.
