Top CIA expert: China waging a quiet 'cold war' against US
The Hill ^ | 07/21/18 | John Bowden

China is working around the globe to undermine American interests and supplant the United States as the world's leading superpower, a top CIA expert warned Friday.

Michael Collins, deputy assistant director at CIA’s East Asia mission center, said at the Aspen Security Forum that China's actions to build man-made islands in the South China Sea – to spur territorial growth and allow for annexation of the islands – were akin to "the Crimea of the East," referring to Russia's 2014 annexation of the Ukrainian region.

“I would argue...that what they’re waging against us is fundamentally a cold war — a cold war not like we saw during THE Cold War, but a cold war by definition,” Collins said, according to The Associated Press.

The statement from the top CIA official comes days after FBI Director Christopher Wray said that China represents the "broadest" immediate threat to American interests.

“The volume of it. The pervasiveness of it. The significance of it is something that I think this country cannot underestimate,” Wray said of Chinese espionage efforts uncovered by his agency.

President Trump said in an interview this week that his administration was all set to implement additional tariffs targeting Chinese imports into the U.S., telling CNBC that he’s “ready to go” with $500 billion in additional tariffs that the administration says is equal to all Chinese goods sold in the U.S.

“I’m not doing this for politics. I’m doing this to do the right thing for our country. We have been ripped off by China for a long time, and I told that to President Xi [Jinping],” Trump said in an interview that aired Friday.

China's government has vowed to respond reciprocally to the latest round of tariffs and has filed a challenge with the World Trade Organization.

Every year, we hear about 2 or 3 Chinese nationals working in the government, private firms, and academia who are caught stealing government and tech secrets.

They also bootleg and backward engineer the products we manufacture in China.

These stories are reported but they get little attention.

China has an active network of agents working in the US.

CHINA, not Russia, is the real threat.

CHINA, not Russia, is the real threat.

There's a lot of relatively unpopulated, resource-rich land in Siberia, right next door to China. I bet both Xi and Putin are aware of this.

The US and Russia would be natural allies against Chinese expansion, if 70 years of post-WW II history hadn't set them at odds. Not to mention the Indians, who fight off Chinese expansion constantly.

China could probably, easily, and legitimately surpass the US if they gave their people true physical freedom, economic freedom, and property rights. Of course we might stay ahead if we stopped passing laws to interfere with ours.

Remember ‘back in the day’ when Japan started buying up buildings in general and Hawaii in particular, then moved their goals and started moving in on New York City.

Eventually ‘we’ (FED) stepped in, slapped them down, threw out some restrictions and things got back to ‘normal’.

We have ‘allowed’ and become far too dependent on China to effectively ‘pull the rug out from under them’ unless WE are prepared to ‘bite the bullet’ for a while.

Kind of like all those ‘OLD LIBS’ that DEMAND 15 bucks an hour for ALL then gripe when the local restaurant/fast food joint etc cuts down on the help or quits giving away that 2nd cup of coffee or raises the price of their cheeseburgers etc etc, accusing the owners of GOUGING the public....

Michael Collins, deputy assistant director at CIA’s East Asia mission center

At least one man in the CIA is warning us of a legitimate threat and not pushing the Democrats' Russia narrative.

How about Mexico involved with sending illegals here for decades and buying local elections with illegals and Mexican money?

See my tagline about the real election meddlers in our elections for decades.

We need to team up with Russia before China woes them.

Actually, the Japanese investments in California, hotels, wineries, restaurants, 5 star restaurants, golf courses and million $ homes in California turned sour with their terrible management style.

This was in the late 1990’s to early 2000’s. So they sold those investments for a big loss and left California.

Apparently, they and the ChiComs have had the same bad experiences in investments in British Columbia real estate in recent years.

Russia is already China’s ally.

They sold and sell them their military equipment.
