Gowdy blasts Justice Department for failing to disclose dossier funding sources
The Hill ^ | 07/22/18 | Max Greenwood

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) tore into the Justice Department on Sunday for failing to disclose in a clandestine surveillance warrant application that a controversial opposition research dossier detailing salacious allegations against President Trump was funded in part by political opponents.

In an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Gowdy said that a secret court should have been told that the dossier was partially paid for by the Clinton campaign when the FBI sought a surveillance warrant on Carter Page, a former adviser on Trump's campaign.

"The FBI missed a really good opportunity to tell the judge exactly who paid for that," Gowdy said.

The House Oversight Committee chairman's comments came a day after the Justice Department released documents related to the surveillance of Page. Those documents outline allegations that Page had "been the subject of targeted recruitment by the Russian government."

They also cite a dossier compiled in 2016 by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele that alleges ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Republicans have repeatedly accused senior Justice Department officials of inappropriately using the dossier to obtain surveillance warrants on members of Trump's transition team – a point that Gowdy doubled down on.

"I don’t have an issue with looking into people that have cozy relationships with Russia," Gowdy said. "I do have an issue when you rely on unvetted political opposition research."

Russia's efforts to meddle in the 2016 election, as well as possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, are the subjects of a law enforcement investigation being carried out by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Trump has repeatedly called that probe a "witch hunt" and a "hoax." Gowdy said on Sunday that he has not seen any evidence to support the allegation that the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian officials.

"I have not seen one scintilla of evidence that this president colluded, conspired, confederated with Russia," he said.

I've said from the beginning, Christopher Steele is the key.

He's the one who collected the intel and he's the one who disseminated the intel.

If you want to crack this case wide open find a way to get Christopher Steele to testify under oath.

And if that doesn't work, there are other methods.

Gowdy is a worthless Deep State stooge. He killed spygate in the crib and last Sunday on the eve of the House finally taking some action against Rosenweasel he spiked that too. He loves to say something good in the morning and by the end of the same day we find he has shoved a knife in our back

Then quit funding the goddamn thing! Never should have been funded in the first place and the farce is driving America nuts.

The only way to get rid of Sessions is a second term and DON’T INVITE HIM BACK

Yes it is. Over a year ago when Trump first criticized Sessions, Jeff offered his resignation. I wish to God Trump had taken accepted it. Within weeks Rosenweasel made Comey’s BFF SC and it’s been a endless miserable crap storm ever since.

I have yet to see proof that Carter Page went from trusted witness in May 2016 to Russian asset in July 2016.

Likewise, no one has shown that X number of votes were changed, not influenced, by Russians. No proof, no case.

“I don’t remember the resignation offer but Sessions ..”

It was very early. Trump was upset about the Recusal and was saying so. Jeff said publicly he had offered his resignation. I am going by memory and he only said it once, it was sometime in the spring of 17. Any other Freepers remember? Not that it matters now.

Is Britain an ally? I am not sure these days. Dont we have an extradition treaty with the UK? Pretty sure we do.

> Is Britain an ally?

No.

We have very good reasons they attempted to overthrow our government.

Until that sitution is resolved to OUR full satisfaction, the UK can no longer be considered an ally.

Gowdy is a worthless Deep State stooge.

By training and experience, he certainly knows how to walk on both sides of the line. So far, all he has given the public is ferocious barking.

"The FBI missed a really good opportunity to tell the judge exactly who paid for that," Gowdy said.

He makes it sound as a "slap on the wrist" sort of offense. It was almost a certainty more than an "opportunity", it was likely an obligation to advise the court the credibility of the docs was clearly compromised.

More posturing by Gowdy, He was Involved in this Attempted OVERTHROW OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT from the very beginning, analyze his actions and statements and you can come to no other conclusion.

LOCK THEM ALL UP NOW!!!
