A rightwing American thinktank that spent a five-figure sum on Tommy Robinson’s legal defence has said it is aware of up to four other similar organisations bankrolling a high-profile campaign to release him.
The Middle East Forum has also paid for foreign speakers to attend “Free Tommy” rallies in the UK in addition to funding the far-right activist’s court defence.
Robinson, the founder of the English Defence League whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has hired a prominent criminal barrister who has previously defended high-profile celebrities to appeal against a 13-month prison sentence for contempt of court.
Outrage around the perceived injustice of Robinson’s plight has led to US rightwing groups converging to support him, while a diplomat representing Donald Trump has reportedly lobbied the British ambassador on Robinson’s behalf.
“We are focused on ensuring that there can be a robust discussion of the pros and cons of different elements of Islamic thought in western liberal democracies,” said Gregg Roman, a director of the organisation that previously financed anti-Islam Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
The Middle East Forum said it had provided support for people in 90 cases across the world including Austria, Canada and New Zealand. “It’s not that we agree with Robinson’s views, but we do defend his right to articulate them,” Roman said.

What this clearly demonstrates is that the right supports freedom of speech and clearly shows that the left does not unless it is left wing speech.
We already knew that communism, socialism, and the American liberals can not tolerate any speech or views except their own.
Always right wing when it comes to us, but never left wing.
That aside so what, is this supposed to be news/ Who cares if a group is trying to help a person who has seen misjustuce.
Where are they reporting on all the left wing groups supporting that protest mach from over here and Europe? What about Soros?

This is the UK Guardian. Anyone publicly to the right of Sadiq Khan and they scream “rightwing, rightwing, rightwing!!!” at full throttle.
I sincerely hope U.S. conservative groups are funding pressure to get Tommy Robinson released. I’d be glad to donate.
BTW for fun reading google “America’s love affair with guns”. Guardian articles will pop up with comments sections full of leftwing Limies venting their spleen at how superior they are to us for being disarmed.
Most important line in the whole article, one which should but won’t send a chill down the spine of anyone who actually believes in free speech:
“Robinson’s crime – he was jailed for contempt of court after live-streaming a report of a trial ...”
Reread that again and again. The whole article and indeed the whole story doesn’t make any sense unless you know what the trial was about but the Guardian is afraid to even describe it. They’d rather publish a completely indecipherable article (why would conservatives be defending a guy who live-streamed a report of a random trial? How are live-streaming and trials in anyway related to Islamophobia?) than fulfill the most basic role of a newspaper and actually just say what the trial was about. Fear of the government has clearly trumped their most basic journalistic impulse to tell the story
