Joe Lieberman: If Democratic-Socialism is our Future, We’re in Trouble

Joe Lieberman has long been many Republicans favorite Democrat.

Not because he’s particularly conservative but because he’s an honest, well-meaning politician… and there aren’t many of those around anymore.

Lieberman is in the news again now because he’s penned an op-ed criticizing his party’s shift to the left. Lieberman argues that if Democratic-Socialists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez truly are the future of the Democrat Party, then the Democrat Party doesn’t have a very bright future ahead.

Really the point was, what is the Democratic party going to be? I am still a Democrat and when I see somebody that really says she is a Socialist, she is a very charismatic, captivating candidate but if you look at the policies, those are not policies that will be supported very many places across America. If her win makes her into what Kellyanne Conway calls it “the new face of the Democratic party”, the Democratic party will not have a bright future…

As I said in the column in the Wall Street Journal today, she didn’t talk too much about foreign policy during the campaign. She obviously by her own acknowledgment does not know that much about foreign policy. But when she did talk about it, it was from the Democratic-Socialist organization policy book. It is very pro-socialist around the world…. Let me put it this way, it is too quick to criticize Israel so she during the campaign actually said at one point that the Israeli action to defend against the massing of troops on the border in Gaza by Hamas, was a massacre. That is very hot language and not fair.

The Democrat Party needs more Joe Liebermans and fewer of everything else they’ve got these days.

Sadly, I don’t think Lieberman realizes that his party has left him behind. The Party of Lieberman and JFK is long gone… today’s Democrats are the Party of Bernie Sanders and the socialists.

If Dianne Feinstein is too conservative for the new Democrats - they are in a heap of trouble...

she says a lot of odd things. For example, she said the unemployment rate is low because people are working two jobs.

She has a degree in economics, but doesn’t know how the unemployment rate is calculated. And we are supposed to be shocked and awed by her. The media sure has been pushing her.

What’s needed is a decent third party, one that really does stand for the best blend of conservative and libertarian beliefs. I don’t see the GOP being purified enough during the (hopefully) two Trump terms to fill that need.

But, I think that asks too much of our self-absorbed polity.

Lieberman may have been half of Sore-Loserman but he was never the pathetic dweeb AlGore was.

I think that Cortez woman really threw them for a loop- they expected to waltz through their primary as usual

But all you have to do is get a few people to vote for you and you can win a primary.

SO FEW PEOPLE VOTE that 20 or 30 of your cousins and neighbors can affect the outcome.

I remember in my district one year I asked how many people voted and they said 27. Not 27% 27 PEOPLE - all day.

If a few more Freepers had shown up we could have ousted a sitting congress-critter IN A PRIMARY

My dad was active in the Democrat party all the while he was alive.

Growing up, I just considered myself a Democrat and didn't pay much attention to it. The last couple of years in high school and during college I started looking around and began wondering what the he11 I was thinking.

Zell Miller, and to a lesser extent-Lieberman, were the last two Democrats I could agree with on anything.

Vote for Joe! That was peak conservative politics. The conservatives switched parties in the 1988 general election and voted for Joe over the RINO Lowell Weicker.

How did that work out? Joe provide the critical vote for Gays in the military and Obama Care. Not to mention he nearly help Algorilla win the presidential election.

Lieberman immediately dropped his “I’m reasonable” routine to sound like a Gore/Clinton socialist for the 2000 campaign. I have no respect for that clown.

“”My dad was active in the Democrat party all the while he was alive.””

My parents went to their graves without ever revealing how they voted. All me and my siblings knew was they got in the car, drove to town, voted and returned home and that was it. Of course, we all grew up and left home and I moved far away while the others remained close by but I don’t believe they ever learned any more about their political leanings than we knew as kids..

The problem is the word. What Ted Kennedy referred to as “the S word” still polls as very negative.

Free sh*t with other people’s money, on the other hand, is quite popular....

As I said before, he is one of the few Dems I voted for, since he ran to the right of L.P. Wackjob. I think he knows that Connecticut’s voters might be Republicans back in Hartford. I sure hope so...

Her ‘’degree’’ in economics is worth about as much as Monopoly money. It’s just a bunch of meaningless titles showered on Latinos like her who have pleased their white Leftist mentors.
