If they have left the government, why would they retain security clearance? I don’t understand the process I guess. Happy to have an explanation.

Clearances are usually valid for five years, and they go with the individual.

Exactly. When you leave a job, you leave everything behind. Why would you expect to retain your security clearance?

I agree when the person leaves the position they should lose the clearance and access to any intel.

I could see them retaining clearance for whatever length of time (for such as if they returned to government or worked for a contractor), but giving them access to anything is insane.

Sigh, take your time, no rush.

Even Sessions would laugh at how slowly this is going.

So that they may leak information favorable to the Democrats.

The clearance does not matter, it is “access” that is important. I retired in 2009, I still retain a secret clearance which will, expire next year if not renewed. What I do not have is “access.” The level of clearance determines level of access. Just because I have a clearance does not automatically give me access to sensitive material. There is a process to obtain access. Since the individuals mentioned are no longer working at their respective agencies, they should not have access to classified material at any level, Revoking a clearance is a serious step as it prevents future employment unless a clearance is reinstated. I have seen revoking a clearance for cause used to terminate contractors and military personnel.

I can’t understand this.

Why wouldn’t their clearances be revoked when they are no longer serving in the government. It’s like turning in your company credit card, security pass, having your passwords changed when you leave a job.

Just unbelievable.

Time to pull the plug on these rascals.

Terminate the security clearances.

See the answers at #4 and #50. All add to them as former military when you get out with a Top Secret security clearance and are seeking employment in the private sector that does business with government as a contractor many require an active security clearance to get a foot in the door as it makes it much easier for the employers.

I spent 24 years in uniform and 15 as a DOD Civilian - was a Unit Security Manager in both positions.....when one leave the job that required the clearance, they are 'signed out" (legal document laying out charges for leaking any retained knowledge/holding on to unauthorized data, etc.) and their electronic record is tagged that they no longer have access (electronic record is only authorized method for checking/verifying authorization to access so any security manager in the world would access same database before allowing access).

Access is terminated but the clearance remains intact until it naturally expires as some folks end up working for other government agencies/contractors and some conditions allow reactivation of the clearance for a specific set of access....the clearance says one has been vetted for access - the specific job determines the actual allowed access and that is entered by the agency currently employing the individual...between assignments, many have their access turned off and then it can be turned back on by the gaining agency if/when needed for the actual job. When one leaves the job, access is "turned off" so anyone allowing access would be breaking the law....here's hoping their access was terminated when they left and nobody allowed them access since....

Their Clearances should have been pulled the day they left the job..I had a Top Secret clearance for years and the day I retire it was revoked....”NO NEED TO KNOW”...is the reference.
