Getting immunity doesn’t mean you did something wrong. It does protect you from an overzealous federal government who may want to implicate you on a conspiracy if someone you had contact with did something wrong.
I was granted immunity on a federal case when I prepared tax returns for someone who had committed tax evasion and other crimes. I hire a lawyer who represented that I would refuse to cooperate without immunity. I was in the dark about my clients activities but it was possible the prosecutor may not have believed me.
The process is interesting, you first have attorney give a proffer which outlines what you will testify to and they weigh that testimony against there getting a conviction on their target.
If these folks helped process transactions, they may have hired attorneys who obtained a deal to protect their clients. Something that should be done before talking to FBI.
Typical prosecutor tactic. Withhold evidence until the last minute just before the trial when they had the evidence for months before the trial. A decent judge would den use of the evidence unless it was favorable to the defendant. If it was favorable to the defendant, that would be reason enough to dismiss the charges in most cases.

Never bite on ‘use’ immunity. Always hold out for ‘transactional’, and if the prosecutor won’t give it, take the 5th and flip him off.
What these ‘witnesses’ are probably looking for is immunity from perjury charges.
