~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort George G. Meade, Maryland

Fort George G. Meade, located adjacent to Odenton, Maryland, in Anne Arundel County, is an active U.S. Army installation. The fort, established in 1917, is named for General George Meade, a Union Army general in the American Civil War. It covers 5,067 acres in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Due to its location near Washington, D.C., it is increasingly being used by government and military tenants like the Defense Information School, the headquarters of the Defense Courier Service, the United States Army Field Band, and an United States Environmental Protection Agency facility.

Headquarters for the National Security Agency are at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. NSA has its own exit off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway labeled "NSA Employees Only."

Fort Meade became an active Army installation in 1917. Authorized by an Act of Congress in May 1917, it was one of 16 cantonments built for troops drafted for the war with the Central Powers in Europe. The present Maryland site was selected June 23, 1917 because of its close proximity to the railroad, Baltimore port and Washington D.C.

Fort Meade enables critical national security missions by providing its customers and community the facilities and infrastructure they require, the quality of life they deserve, and a safe, secure environment in which to work and live. Fort Meade has the fourth largest workforce of Army installations in the continental United States with approximately 40,000 military, civilian and contractor personnel.

The National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) is a cryptologic intelligence agency of the United States government, administered as part of the United States Department of Defense.

Created on November 4, 1952 by President Harry S. Truman, it is responsible for the collection and analysis of foreign communications and foreign signals intelligence, which involves cryptanalysis. It is also responsible for protecting U.S. government communications and information systems from similar agencies elsewhere, which involves cryptography.

As of 2008, NSA has been directed to help monitor U.S. federal agency computer networks to protect them against attacks.[1] NSA is directed by a lieutenant general or vice admiral. NSA is a key component of the U.S. Intelligence Community, which is headed by the Director of National Intelligence.

The Central Security Service is a co-located agency created to coordinate intelligence activities and co-operation between NSA and U.S. military cryptanalysis agencies. NSA's work is limited to communications intelligence; it does not perform field or human intelligence activities.

Also located at Fort George G. Meade is the Fort George G. Meade Museum. The Fort George G. Meade Museum was established to collect, preserve, study and exhibit historical artifacts pertaining to the history of Fort George G. Meade. The Museum is dedicated "in proud memory of those members of the United States Army who died in the defense of Freedom".

Inside the museum, visitors will discover a wealth of historic artifacts, photographs, documents, and paintings. Outside, on the beautifully landscaped Museum grounds, visitors can see historic military equipment including tanks, armored personnel carriers, a Nike "Ajax" missile, and a helicopter.

Hiya adu!

Heh-heh, I sure was teasing Kathy tonight, she can take it.

Wassup your way? I didn't do much today other than go out for breakfast. Keeping close to the A/C for the rest of the day.

She’s gonna pop ya upside the head when she gets off work! LOL

My day was spent at the tent our Republican women’s group set up to promote the candidates running for various offices. Early voting is going on now. Thankfully the weather was mahvelous today. It was such a pleasure to be outside. Doing it again tomorrow and the weather is SUPPOSED to be a repeat of today.
We’ll be hot again by the end of the week though.

Might see the wrench before the night’s over! LOL

How ya doin’ tonight, LUV. Rested up a bit after your much-needed nap?

Sure might if he keeps pushing it. LOL!

I’m doing great and the nap definitely helped. These early mornings are for...you guessed it....the birds! It was blistering hot here, but they promise it’ll be cooler tomorrow. Mid-90s. LOL!

Hope you enjoyed nice weather today. Did the event go well?

Glad the nap perked you up. That’s three early mornings in a row for you. OUCH! At least you can sleep in tomorrow since you won’t pick up LB til the afternoon.

Hey, mid-90s will feel good after what you’ve had the past few days. LOL!

We had mid-80s here with a stiff breeze blowing all day. Felt GOOD! The only drawback - - the snuffling and snorting tonight from all the pollen.

It wasn’t an event today. Early voting is going on and our Republican women’s group has a tent set up where folks are voting. I didn’t do any stints there last week but am doing two this week. Gotta do my share. :-)

Dang it, Kathy hasn't put me in the time-out corner, with the wrench since 2007, LOL.

Sorry Ma, I'll behave!

Ah, yes. Early voting. For the life of me, I couldn’t remember exactly what it was. LOL! I guess that’s an event of a sort. :) Hope the weather cooperates for you again tomorrow. Want all those voters to do their thang! :)

Indeed, I’m going to enjoy sleeping late in the morning. We have till 5:30pm to pick her up and I think her being there and being quiet is best at first

Good evening, Janey...((HUGS))...how long til you get your new computer?

Will your brother get it set up for you? My computer guy moved to Vegas. He takes care of my computers remotely, but I really miss having one close at hand.
